Diamantbollen, Swedish for the Diamond Ball, an annual award for Sweden's best female football player. The award is currently awarded by the Swedish Football Association and Sydsvenskans newspaper, in conjunction with its male equivalent, Guldbollen .

Contents

Diamantbollen was first awarded in 1990 in cooperation between the Swedish Football Association and the newspaper Arbetet until 2000. Since 2001, the awards has been awarded by the Swedish Football Association and Sydsvenskan. [1] The precursor of this award, "Årets fotbollstjej" ("Soccer Girl of the Year"), was awarded by the Swedish Football Association and Dagens Nyheter from 1980 to 1989. [2]

Since 2002, the recipient of the award has received a blown crystal structure designed by Melanie Rydoff. The award is in the shape of a kernel with smooth concave top. At the top of the award, there is a silver leaf. The logo and player name are made by calligrapher Gun Larson. [3]

Victoria Margareta Sandell Svensson is a Swedish football manager and former player. Malmö Arena is a multi-purpose indoor arena in Malmö, Sweden, and the venue for home games of SHL ice hockey club Malmö Redhawks. It is the largest arena in the SHL, and the second-largest indoor arena in Sweden. Apart from hosting Redhawks hockey matches, the arena is often the venue for team handball, floorball, concerts, and other events. It has also hosted indoor athletics. Owned and operated by Parkfast AB, the arena was designed by Mats Matson of MM Matsson Konsult AB, Hannu Helkiö of Pöyry Architects, and Gert Wingårdh of Wingårdh arkitektkontor. Rut Hedvig Lindahl is a Swedish professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Swedish Damallsvenskan club Djurgården and the Sweden national team. She previously played club football in Sweden for other Damallsvenskan clubs including Malmö FF, Linköpings FC, Kristianstads DFF and Kopparbergs/Göteborg FC as well as Chelsea in the English FA WSL. Since making her international debut in 2002, Lindahl has accrued 189 caps for Sweden. On 3 August 2014, Lindahl played her 100th cap for Sweden against England. On 17 September 2015, Lindahl played her 113th cap and thereby broke Elisabeth Leidinge's record to become the most capped Swedish female goalkeeper. Tina Cecilia Elisabeth Nordlund is a Swedish football coach and former player, most recently an assistant coach at Umeå IK. She is one of the most well known Swedish female footballers. In November 2000, she was awarded the Diamantbollen, an annual award made to the best female player in Sweden, during the Swedish Soccer Awards, and during her speech she expressed her thoughts that women's soccer received too little media publicity. She played for Alnö IF, Sundsvalls DFF and Umeå IK. She retired from playing football aged 25 after suffering from anorexia nervosa.

Kerstin Ingrid Therese Sjögran is a Swedish football manager and coach, and former player as a midfielder for Damallsvenskan club FC Rosengård and the Sweden national team. A modern pioneer and source of inspiration in women's football, she is considered one of the greatest Swedish footballers of all time and imagined by some as a possible future head coach for the national team. Nicknamed "Terre", Sjögran made her first Damallsvenskan appearances for Kristianstad/Wä DFF. She joined Malmö FF Dam in 2001 and remained with the club through its different guises as LdB FC and FC Rosengård. Sjögran spent the 2011 season with American Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) club Sky Blue FC.
