DontStayIn, commonly abbreviated to DSI, was a social networking site based around clubbing. Primarily covering the UK, it listed nearly 185,000 events, and at its peak had over five million verified members. Members were encouraged to upload picture galleries to the site for events they've attended, add events and venues and otherwise contribute. "Spotters" were DSI members who reviewed and photographed events.
The site was also ranked continuously from April 2006 to December 2008 in the top 3 websites in the UK on Hitwise in the "Entertainment - Nightlife" category.
The format of the site allowed any user to add event listings, post comments and upload photos from anywhere in the world. DSI members were known for their loyalty to and promotion of the site. DJ and former nightclub promoter Carl Bates (aka Twistedcarl) who was one of Dontstayin.com s thousands of "spotters" recalls the great sense of community among the spotters and members, where every worthwhile nightclub in the country had its own Legion of spotters uploading pictures of the clubbers that they had taken the night before. Many users had also commented favourably about the site and its impact on their lives when it is mentioned by reviewers.[ citation needed ]
DSI users (often referred to "DSIers"), also used DontStayIn to set up events [1] [2] and user-groups [3] [4] to promote the meeting up of DSIers in real life.
In November 2006 DSI was reportedly used to organise [5] what has been described as the biggest flash mob ever[ citation needed ] in Paddington Station, London, UK.
In 2005, DSI was featured in a documentary [6] made by Juniper TV [7] as part of Channel 4's "Trouble Online" series [8] that profiled new media enterprises that have been set up by young entrepreneurs.
On 14 April 2009, DontStayIn Ltd was acquired for an undisclosed sum by Development Hell Ltd, the publishers of The Word and Mixmag. [9]
In December 2012 DontStayIn was taken over by Love Socio Ltd, a subsidiary company of Web Giants Ltd., and the website was revamped the following year. Both the main website and the associated Facebook page ceased being updating in mid-2016.[ citation needed ]

The Don't Stay In brand was updated in June 2013 followed by a complete website update. The first phase of the new update was launched in Beta in July 2013.

Image sharing, or photo sharing, is the publishing or transfer of digital photos online. Image sharing websites offer services such as uploading, hosting, managing and sharing of photos. This function is provided through both websites and applications that facilitate the upload and display of images. The term can also be loosely applied to the use of online photo galleries that are set up and managed by individual users, including photoblogs. Sharing means that other users can view but not necessarily download images, and users can select different copyright options for their images.
BuzzNet is a photo, journal, and video-sharing social media network that is currently owned by Hive Media. The network was owned by SpinMedia from its inception until September 2016, when it was sold to Hive Media.
Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection is a defunct online multiplayer gaming service run by Nintendo that formerly provided free online play in compatible Nintendo DS and Wii games. Panoramio was a geo-located tagging, photo sharing mashup active between 2005 and 2016. Photos uploaded to the site were accessible as a layer in Google Earth and Google Maps. The site's goal was to allow Google Earth users to learn more about a given area by viewing the photos that other users had taken at that location. Panoramio was acquired by Google in 2007. In 2009 the website was among the 1000 most popular websites worldwide.
Tagged is a social discovery website based in San Francisco, California, founded in 2004. It allows members to browse the profiles of any other members, and share tags and virtual gifts. Tagged claims it has 300 million members as of 2014. As of September 2011, Quantcast estimates Tagged monthly unique users at 5.9 million in the United States, and 18.6 million globally. Michael Arrington wrote in April 2011 that Tagged is most notable for the ability to grow profitably during the era of Facebook.
VK is a Russian online social media and social networking service based in Saint Petersburg. VK is available in multiple languages but it is predominantly used by Russian speakers. VK users can message each other publicly or privately, edit these messages, create groups, public pages, and events; share and tag images, audio, and video; and play browser-based games.
Fotki is a digital photo sharing, video sharing and media social network website and web service suite; it is one of the world's largest social networking sites. As an image hosting service, Fotki licenses photo-sharing software for global companies such as Telecom Italia, Alice.it, Sears, Mark Travel, Vegas.com, and Funjet.com, among others.
MobileMe is a discontinued subscription-based collection of online services and software offered by Apple Inc. All services were gradually transitioned to and eventually replaced by the free iCloud, and MobileMe ceased on June 30, 2012, with transfers to iCloud being available until July 31, 2012, or data being available for download until that date, when the site finally closed completely. On that date all data was deleted, and email addresses of accounts not transferred to iCloud were marked as unused.
Nexopia was a Canadian social networking website created in 2003, by Timo Ewalds. It was designed for ages 14 and up, but was later lowered to 13. Users are able to create and design profiles, a friends list, blogs, galleries, and compose articles and forums. Interaction is accomplished through an internal personal messaging system, public user comments on profiles, blogs or through threads and posts on the forums. In November 2012, Nexopia was acquired by digital ad network Ideon Media.
Wikimedia Commons, or simply Commons, is a wiki-based media repository of free-to-use images, sounds, videos and other media. It is a project of the Wikimedia Foundation.
MSN Messenger, later rebranded as Windows Live Messenger, was a cross-platform instant-messaging client developed by Microsoft. It connected to the now-discontinued Microsoft Messenger service and, in later versions, was compatible with Yahoo! Messenger and Facebook Messenger. The service was discontinued in 2013 and was replaced by Skype.
Metal Storm is a webzine specializing in various forms of heavy metal music. It is based in Tallinn, Estonia, but caters to an international audience, symbolically recognized by the acquisition of an EU domain in 2008. The site features a database of over 5,000 bands, alongside album reviews, news and interviews.
Flipnote Studio, known in Japan as Moving Notepad, is a free downloadable application available through the Nintendo DSi's DSiWare digital distribution service. The service for the DSiWare has been discontinued. Developed by Nintendo EAD Tokyo, Flipnote Studio allowed the user to create both word-based and picture-based notes with the stylus, add sound, and combine them to create frame-by-frame flipbook-style animations. In English-language keynote addresses and conferences prior to its release, the application was referred to as Moving Notepad by Nintendo, and was announced at E3 2009 officially as Flipnote Studio. It was released in Japan on December 24, 2008, in North America on August 12, 2009, and in Europe and Australia on August 14. It was later included as a preloaded program on the Nintendo DSi and DSi XL with firmware version 1.4.
Plenty of Fish (POF) is a Canadian online dating service, popular primarily in Canada, the United Kingdom, the Republic of Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Spain, Brazil, and the United States. It is available in nine languages. The company, which is based in Vancouver, British Columbia generates revenue through advertising and premium memberships. While it is free to use, Plenty of Fish offers premium services as part of their upgraded membership, such as allowing users to see who has "liked" a member through the service's MeetMe feature, and whether a message has been read and/or deleted.
TwitPic was a website and app that allowed users to post pictures to the Twitter microblogging service, which at the time of TwitPic's creation could not be posted to Twitter directly. TwitPic was often used by citizen journalists to upload and distribute pictures in near real-time as an event was taking place.
NYCAviation.com is an aviation enthusiast and plane spotting community and resource website, founded by Phil Derner Jr. on August 31, 2003. It sprung from an email newsletter started by Derner in July 2002 called Aireola Aviation, sent to a group of local friends to give them a heads-up on upcoming unique aircraft visitors and happenings from the previous week. Just over a year after the newsletter was launched, Derner transitioned the operation to a static website format.
DailyBooth was a photoblogging website designed for users to take a photo of themselves every day with a caption, in order to document and share their life with others, thus the slogan "your life in pictures." It was similar to social-networking websites such as Twitter in that you could follow other users and allow them to follow you in turn and get real-time updates on what other people are doing. The user base was geared towards teens.
CozyCot is a social networking website for women from East Asia and Southeast Asia. It was founded by Nicole Yee and Clemen Chiang in 2001, as a hobby website dedicated to Asian women. Subsequently, the concept of sharing product and service information and opinions gathered a steady community, turning it into a venture business. CozyCot users interact in the forum and by reviewing beauty products, also in the live events organized by the staff. The importance of its review database is increased by an iPhone scanner software developed by CozyCot, which allows users to pull up product reviews from the website by capturing the barcodes with cameras in their iPhones. In April 2010, CozyCot launched the newspaper and, in June 2011, the mook with the same name.
Skiddle is a primary ticket outlet and online events guide based in the UK, with offices in Manchester, Liverpool, London and Preston dealing with event bookings, registrations, promotion and online ticket sales.
