Doug Karsch (born 1969or1970) [1] is an American talk radio show host and the Michigan Wolverines football radio play by play announcer (alongside Jon Jansen), based in Detroit, Michigan.

Education and early career

Karsch was born in Champaign, Illinois and graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in communications. [2] He got his start in broadcasting at TV station WEYI in Flint as a sports reporter. He made his radio debut in 1994 on WTKA in Ann Arbor. He has hosted pre-game/halftime/post-game coverage of Wolverine basketball. Nationally he has been heard on ESPN College Football Tailgate on ESPN Radio. He has also covered NASCAR and CART races. Radio

He is the co-host of Karsch & Anderson (formerly the Big Show), a radio talk show heard weekdays on WXYT-FM "97.1 The Ticket" in Detroit, Michigan. Doug also hosted The Brady Hoke Radio Show, a weekly syndicated Michigan Wolverines football discussion program, along with Jim Brandstatter, and varying assistant coaches and players which airs live on Thursdays during the college football season. He is also the sideline reporter during Michigan football games. [3]

In April 2014 Karsch was said to be among the finalists for the University of Michigan Football play by play radio position. The position was, in the end, awarded to Dan Dierdorf, who played football for Michigan and in the NFL, as well as having done color commentary for NFL games on ABC and CBS.

Starting in the fall of 2022 Karsch along with former Michigan football player Jon Jansen will be the new voices of Michigan Football.

Television

Karsch also hosts a weekly newsmagazine show for the Michigan Wolverines called Michigan Sports Weekly on the university's Michigan Channel, as well as Fox Sports Detroit and Big Ten Network [3] [4]

He also appears as a reporter on Inside Michigan Football, seen on the same channels.

In addition to working at WXYT, Karsch has given interviews regarding his opinion of various news items about the Michigan Wolverines football team, that have later been published in The Detroit Free Press . [5] [6] His radio interviews with other athletes, such as one given to him by Dontrelle Willis when he was signed to the Detroit Tigers, have been published in The Detroit Free Press. [7]

Terry Foster is an American sports columnist and radio personality in Detroit. He co-hosted Valenti & Foster on WXYT-FM The Ticket, a sports radio station, with Mike Valenti for 13 years until his retirement. It can be listened to worldwide on The Ticket's website. Foster wrote a book called 100 Things Tiger Fans Should Know and Do Before They Die. He also co-wrote The Great Detroit Sports Debate with fellow Detroit writer Drew Sharp. He is a sports columnist for The Detroit News and also writes enterprise pieces on the Detroit Lions, a twice a week page two column and daily blog at detnews.com. He began his broadcasting career in the 1990s on WDFN in Detroit before moving to WXYT. Of the many broadcasters who have moved between the Detroit sports radio rivals, only Foster has worked at WDFN twice and WXYT twice.

Mike Valenti is a radio commentator based in Detroit, Michigan. He hosts The Mike Valenti Show with Rico weekday afternoons from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on WXYT-FM 97.1. His co-host for 13 years was Terry Foster, who retired in April 2017.

The Detroit Lions Radio Network is a radio network in Michigan and Toledo, Ohio that broadcasts all of the NFL's Detroit Lions games and related programming. All preseason, regular season, and postseason games are aired live throughout the network. The announcers are WJBK sports director Dan Miller with play-by-play, former Lions offensive tackle Lomas Brown with color commentary, and former Lions guard T. J. Lang serving as sideline reporter. Network coverage begins two hours before game time and ends one hour after the game's conclusion. Games are also aired on Sirius XM Radio and online with a subscription to NFL Game Pass or TuneIn Premium. The Lions' flagship station returned to WXYT-FM starting with the 2021 season, after a five-year stint at WJR. Jim Brandstatter is an American former sportscaster. He served as a radio announcer for the Michigan Wolverines football team from 1979 to 2021, and for the Detroit Lions from 1987 to 2017. Brandstatter is also a sports television show host and former radio show host; both TV and radio shows about Michigan football.

The Michigan Wolverines Sports Network is an American radio network consisting of 46 radio stations which carry coverage of Michigan Wolverines football and men's basketball. WXYT-FM and WWJ, both in Metro Detroit, serve as the network's flagship stations. The network also includes 44 affiliates in the U.S. states of Michigan and Ohio: 27 AM stations, four of which extend their signals with low-power FM translators; and 17 full-power FM stations. Games are also available on Sirius XM satellite radio and online via TuneIn.
