Dundalk Ice Dome was the first permanent ice arena in Ireland, located in Dundalk Retail Park, Dundalk, County Louth, Ireland. The Ice Dome aimed to become the centre of excellence for ice hockey in Ireland. It was home to the Irish national ice hockey squad and local team the Dundalk Bulls. [1] For 2007 and 2008, the venue was used as a secondary venue by the Belfast Giants. [2] The Ice Dome was closed in early May 2010 with plans to open under new management by Planet Ice; however, this has yet to happen and the rink remained closed. [3]

In April 2007, Dundalk Ice Dome staged the International Ice Hockey Federation Division III World Championships, where Team Ireland claimed a silver medal and promotion to Division II . [4]

The 2006–07 Elite Ice Hockey League season commenced on September 9, 2006 and concluded on April 8, 2007. It was the Elite League's fourth season of competition.

The Ireland national ice hockey team is the national men's ice hockey team of the Republic of Ireland run by the Irish Ice Hockey Association (IIHA) and a member of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) since 26 September 1996.

The British ice hockey league champions are the winners of the regular season of the highest ice hockey league in the United Kingdom, currently the Elite Ice Hockey League. Previously, the highest league has been the British National League (1954–60), the Premier Division (1983–96) and the Ice Hockey Superleague (1996–2003).

The Dundalk Bulls were an ice hockey team from Dundalk, Ireland that competed in the Irish Ice Hockey League and the Celtic Cup League, with games being played in Ireland and Scotland. Home games were played at the 1,200-seat capacity Dundalk Ice Dome, which used to be home to Team Ireland and hosted the Division 3 Ice Hockey World Championships in April 2007. The club has not fielded a team since the closure of the Dundalk Ice Dome in May 2010 and appears no longer to exist.

The 2008 IIHF World Championship was played between May 2 and May 18, 2008 in the Canadian cities of Halifax and Quebec City (Quebec). The two venues were the Halifax Metro Centre and the Colisée Pepsi. The tournament was won by Russia which claimed its first gold medal since 1993.

The Bolshoy Ice Dome is a multi-purpose indoor arena located in Olympic Park, Sochi, Russia. Opened in 2012, the 12,000-seat arena was primarily constructed to host hockey competitions during the 2014 Winter Olympics. Following the Games, it became the home arena of HC Sochi, an expansion team of the KHL. The arena has also hosted concerts and other events. Prior to the Games, the arena hosted the IIHF World U18 Championships and Channel One Cup in 2013.

Hockey at the 2010 Winter Olympics was held at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, home of the National Hockey League's Vancouver Canucks, and at UBC Winter Sports Centre, home of the Canadian Interuniversity Sport's UBC Thunderbirds. Twelve teams competed in the men's event and eight teams competed in the women's event. Canada won both tournaments with victories against the United States, while Finland won both bronze games, however against different opponents.

The ice hockey competitions of the 2014 Winter Olympics were played at two venues, located 300 meters from the other, within the Olympic Park in Sochi, Russia. The Bolshoy Ice Dome, which seats 12,000, resembles a Fabergé egg. The Shayba Arena, seating 7,000, was supposed to be a moveable structure but eventually stayed in Sochi. Both venues are international sized.

The Ireland women's national ice hockey team is the women's national ice hockey team of the Republic of Ireland. The team is controlled by the Irish Ice Hockey Association, a member of the International Ice Hockey Federation. Until the Dundalk Ice Dome reopens they do not meet minimum IIHF standards for participation.

This article lists the performances of each of the 70 national teams which have made at least one appearance in the Ice Hockey World Championships, an annual international men's ice hockey tournament organized by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), including the Olympic ice hockey tournament was also considered the World Championship for that year, and was held before the first Ice Hockey World Championship as an individual event in 1930. With the exception between 1940 and 1946, when no championships were held during World War II, nor were held during the Olympic years 1980, 1984, and 1988. In 2020, the IIHF announced that all World Championship tournaments have been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic and travel restrictions-related issues.
