Eccles Coliseum is an 8,500-seat multi-purpose stadium in the western United States, on the campus of Southern Utah University in Cedar City, Utah. [1] It is the home venue of the Southern Utah Thunderbirds football team of the United Athletic Conference and track and field teams of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC). [2]

Contents

The stadium also hosts the Utah Summer Games opening ceremonies and several events. Opened 56 years ago in 1967, its Hellas MatrixTurf playing field has a traditional north-south alignment at an elevation 5,800 feet (1,770 m) above sea level. The surface was natural grass until 2012.

Utah Blitzz was an American professional soccer team in based in Salt Lake City, Utah that played in the USL Pro Select League. The club was founded in 2000 but folded following the 2004 season to make way for the Major League Soccer franchise, Real Salt Lake, to begin play in 2005. During its short existence the club was very successful, winning two league titles in total while finishing first or second in the Western Conference every season. The club played its home games at Rice-Eccles Stadium on the campus of the University of Utah.

The Southern Utah–Weber State football rivalry, known as the Beehive Bowl, is the annual football game between Southern Utah University and Weber State University. Between 1984 and 2006, the schools met 17 times. In 2011, Southern Utah joined the Big Sky Conference, making it a yearly rivalry. On January 14, 2021, the Western Athletic Conference announced that they are reinstating football, with Southern Utah among the teams moving to the WAC.
