Emily Weir is an Australian actress best known for playing Mackenzie Booth on Seven Network's soap opera Home and Away since 2019.

Early life

Emily Weir was born and raised in Brisbane, Queensland and attended Queensland University of Technology. [2] She has one brother, Tom. [3] She was a dancer for over 15 years and also took up piano and singing lessons, before deciding to pursue a career in acting. [4]

Career

Weir's first acting role was in the stage production Tartuffe, playing Dorine, the maid. For this role, she went on to win both Best Emerging Artist and Best Supporting Actress at the 2017 Matilda Awards, which recognise achievement in the performing arts industry in Queensland. [5]

In 2019, it was announced that Weir would be joining the cast of the Australian soap opera series Home and Away on the Seven Network, after landing the role of new character Mackenzie Booth. [6] [7] She made her debut on the show on 13 June 2019. [8]

In May 2023, Weir was announced as a contestant for the twentieth season of Dancing with the Stars Australia. She was partnered with Lyu Masuda. [9] [10] On 23 July 2023, the season wrapped and Weir was announced as the runner-up, behind winner Phil Burton. [11]

Personal life

Weir has previously spoken openly about her struggles with crippling anxiety which lead to an alcohol addiction. In 2020, she revealed that she had completely given up alcohol. [12]

She was attending a different audition when her agent informed her that she had won the part of Mac. Weir described the moment as overwhelming and revealed that she had been a big fan of the show since she was young. She began filming in December 2018 and her casting was publicly revealed when she was photographed filming scenes at Palm Beach. Weir made her first appearance as Mac during the episode broadcast on 13 June 2019.
