The Environmental Music Prize is a prize launched in partnership with Green Music Australia. It aims to celebrate and amplify powerful music videos that inspire action for climate and conservation. [1] It was launched during the United Nations Climate Change Conference in November 2021 and is a call-to-action for artists to use their voice both on and off stage. [2] The Environmental Music Prize is a quest to find a theme song to inspire action on climate and conservation. [3]
To eligible for the inaugural prize, Australian citizens and residents could apply between November 2021 and February 2022) if they had released an original work in the last 5 years that 1) referenced nature or an environmental issue in its lyrics, or in the visual content of its music video and 2) inspires us to protect the environment with a message of hope or a call-to-action, or highlights the urgency of action. [2]
Between February and April 2022, a shortlisting committee composed of music ambassadors, environmental leaders and impact partners selected the 24 finalists. [2] Public Voting commenced on Earth Day, 22 April 2022 and closed on 22 May 2022. [2]
In June 2022, King Gizzard were announced as winners and donated the $20,000 prize money to The Wilderness Society. [2]

In January 2023, entries were open to Australian citizens and residents who had released an original song and music video between 1 January 2020 and 28 Feb 2023.
The submitted works must: • Reference nature or an environmental issue in its lyrics, or in the visual content of its music video. • Connect us to the natural world, encourage us to reflect, or inspire us to protect the environment. • Be submitted as a music video on Youtube that is publicly available to watch and share.
Finalists were announced on 22 April 2023 (Earth Day), with public voting to open after that. The winner was announced on 13 June 2023. [4] [5] [6]

Troy Cassar-Daley is an Australian country music songwriter and entertainer.
William Barton is an Aboriginal Australian didgeridoo player. He was born in Mount Isa, Queensland on 4 June 1981 and learned to play at the age of 11 from Uncle Arthur Peterson an elder of the Wannyi, Lardil and Kalkadungu tribes of Western Queensland. He is widely recognised as one of Australia's finest traditional didgeridoo players and a leading didgeridoo (yidaki) player in the classical world.
Kutcha Edwards is an indigenous Australian singer and songwriter. He was born in Balranald, New South Wales, in 1965. A survivor of the Stolen Generations, he was removed from his parents at the age of 18 months. He is a Mutti Mutti man. He was named Indigenous Person of the Year at the 2001 NAIDOC Awards and won a Deadly for Male Artist of the Year the same year. He won the 2016 Melbourne Prize for Music.

Jen Cloher is an Australian singer, songwriter, and record producer, currently based in Melbourne, Victoria. Cloher's 2017 self-titled fourth studio album peaked at number 5 on the Australian ARIA Charts. From 2006 to 2010, Cloher recorded and toured with her band Jen Cloher and the Endless Sea and since 2013 has released with Mia Dyson and Liz Stringer music under the name Dyson Stringer Cloher.
Ciaran Lawrence Gribbin is a Northern Irish singer-songwriter, guitarist and producer who hails from Castledawson, Northern Ireland.
Harley Edward Streten, known professionally as Flume, is an Australian musician, DJ, and record producer. He is regarded as a pioneer of future bass who helped popularise the genre. His self-titled debut studio album, Flume, was released in 2012 to positive reviews, topping the ARIA Albums Chart and reaching double-platinum accreditation in Australia.
In Hearts Wake are an Australian metalcore band from Byron Bay, formed in 2006. The band comprises vocalist Jake Taylor, guitarists Eaven Dall and Ben Nairne, bassist Kyle Erich, and drummer Conor Ward. They have released five studio albums: Divination, Earthwalker, Skydancer, Ark and Kaliyuga, which was released on 7 August 2020. The band's lyrical themes include environmentalism, environmental justice, global warming, conservation, and other social issues.
King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard is an Australian rock band formed in 2010 in Melbourne, Victoria. The band's current lineup consists of Stu Mackenzie, Ambrose Kenny-Smith, Cook Craig, Joey Walker, Lucas Harwood, and Michael Cavanagh. They are known for exploring multiple genres, staging energetic live shows, and building a prolific discography.
Mojo Ruiz de Luzuriaga, known professionally as Mo'Ju and previously as Mojo Juju, is an Australian musician, best known for their 2018 album Native Tongue and the lead single of the same title. The single won the Best Independent Single category in the 2019 AIR Awards. They play guitar and piano, write songs and sing, and have created music in a number of genres.
Tash Sultana is an Australian singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and music producer, described as a "one-person band". Sultana rose to international prominence with their 2016 single "Jungle", which was voted into third place in Triple J's Hottest 100 countdown of 2016. The following year, Sultana had three songs voted into Triple J's Hottest 100 of 2017; "Mystik" placing at number 28, "Murder to the Mind" at number 43, and their Like a Version cover of MGMT's "Electric Feel" at number 78.
Holly Isabella Rankin, who performs as Jack River, is an Australian singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer. Her debut album, Sugar Mountain, peaked at No. 11 on the ARIA Albums Chart. At the ARIA Music Awards of 2018 she received nominations for Breakthrough Artist, Best Pop Release and Engineer of the Year.

Ziggy Alberts is an Australian singer-songwriter. He is best known for his studio album Laps Around the Sun, which peaked at number 2 on the ARIA Charts for Australian Artist Albums in November 2018.
Lime Cordiale are an Australian pop rock group formed in 2009. It consists of brothers Oli and Louis Leimbach, with additional members James Jennings, Felix Bornholt and Nicholas Polovineo. They released their debut studio album Permanent Vacation in 2017. The group have performed at Groovin' the Moo and South by Southwest (SXSW). At the 2020 ARIA Music Awards they were nominated in eight categories and won Breakthrough Artist – Release for their second album, 14 Steps to a Better You.
Climate change art is art inspired by climate change and global warming, generally intended to overcome humans' hardwired tendency to value personal experience over data and to disengage from data-based representations by making the data "vivid and accessible". One of the goal of climate change art is to "raise awareness of the crisis", as well as engage viewers politically and environmentally.
Elle Graham, also known as Woodes, is an Australian musician, singer-songwriter and producer from Melbourne, Australia. Her debut album "Crystal Ball" was released in 2020. Woodes has supported Client Liaison on their 2019 "The Real Thing" tour. Elle received full rotation on radio for singles including: "Run For It", "The Thaw", "Origami", Set Mo's "I Belong Here", and "Change My Mind". "I Belong here" went Platinum in Australia. Woodes covered a Vance Joy song for her triple j Like a Version. In 2021, she launched Tornado Club, a collaborative duo with The Kite String Tangle.
The Earthshot Prize is awarded to five winners each year for their contributions to environmentalism. It was first awarded in 2021 and is planned to run annually until 2030. Each winner receives a grant of £1 million to continue their environmental work. The five categories were inspired by the UN Sustainable Development Goals; they are 'restoration and protection of nature', 'air cleanliness', 'ocean revival', 'waste-free living', and 'climate action'.
King Stingray are an Australian rock band from Northeast Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory. With a sound self-described as "Yolŋu surf rock", the band perform songs with lyrics in both English and Yolŋu Matha. King Stingray released their debut single, "Hey Wanhaka", in October 2020, and their self-titled debut album on 5 August 2022.
Clint William Crighton, known professionally as William Crighton is an Australian alternative-rock singer songwriter. He won the ARIA Award for Best Blues and Roots Album in 2022.
