The Florida State Seminoles are the athletic teams representing Florida State University located in Tallahassee, Florida. The South Carolina Gamecocks represent the University of South Carolina in the NCAA Division I. This moniker is in honor of Thomas Sumter, a Revolutionary War hero from South Carolina who was nicknamed the "Carolina Gamecock" after British General Banastre Tarleton said Sumter "fought like a gamecock." While the men's teams were traditionally known as the Fighting Gamecocks and the women's teams were previously known as the Lady Gamecocks, this distinction was discontinued in part to eliminate any gender bias in the athletic department and in part to counter misconceptions about the gamecock mascot endorsing bloodsport.
Marina High School is a public high school located in the northwest corner of Huntington Beach, California which first began operating in 1963. Marina is part of the Huntington Beach Union High School District, which includes several other area high schools. The school is located on Springdale Street between Edinger Avenue and McFadden Avenue. The Long Beach State 49ers football team represented California State University, Long Beach from the 1955 through 1991 seasons. The 49ers originally competed as an Independent before joining the California Collegiate Athletic Association in 1958. By the 1969 season, the 49ers would join the Pacific Coast Athletic Association as a founding member, where they remained until the program was suspended following the 1991 season. Long Beach played its home games at multiple stadiums throughout their history with the most recent being Veterans Memorial Stadium, in Long Beach, California. During their 37 years of competition, the 49ers compiled an all-time record of 199 wins, 183 losses and 4 ties. Three members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame were associated with the program during its otherwise forgettable last two years of existence, i.e., head coaches George Allen and Willie Brown, as well as running back Terrell Davis.
The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers are the athletic teams that represent Coastal Carolina University. They participate in Division I of the NCAA as a member of the Sun Belt Conference in most sports, having joined that conference as a full but non-football member on July 1, 2016. At that time, the football team began a transition from the second-level Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) to the top-level Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). The team played the 2016 season as an FCS independent, joined Sun Belt football for the 2017 season, and became full FBS members for 2018 and beyond. A Chanticleer is a proud and fierce rooster. Prior to joining the Sun Belt, the Chanticleers had been members of the Big South Conference since that league's formation in 1983. Coastal fields varsity teams in 20 sports, 9 for men and 11 for women. The university regularly competed for the Sasser Cup, the Big South's trophy for the university with the best sports program among the member institutions, winning the trophy nine times, tied with rival Liberty University.

Women's swimming competes in the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association. As a member of the Big South Conference, Liberty regularly competed for the Sasser Cup, which is the trophy for the university which has the best sports program among the member institutions. Liberty won the Sasser Cup 10 times, the most in Big South Conference history.

Alan Knipe is the head coach of the Long Beach State 49ers men's volleyball team and head coach of the 2012 Olympic Team United States men's national volleyball team. He played and coached at Long Beach State. As a player, he helped the team win the 1991 NCAA championship and an appearance in the 1990 NCAA Championships. and as a coach, he has guided them to six final four appearances and two national championships. As a player, assistant coach and head coach, Knipe has helped Long Beach to 9 of the programs 11 NCAA Final four appearances.
The 1991 NCAA Men's Volleyball Tournament was the 22nd annual tournament to determine the national champion of NCAA men's collegiate volleyball. The tournament was played at the Neal S. Blaisdell Center in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi during May 1991.
