George W. Thompson

George William Thompson (born 1956) is an American international trade attorney, an adjunct professor [1] at George Mason University Schar School of Policy and Government and a published author on international trade. [2] He currently has his own firm, Thompson and Associates, [3] in Washington, DC.

Education and career

Thompson attended the State University of New York (Oneonta) and graduated in 1978. He then attended the Cornell Law School and received the degree of Juris Doctor in 1981.

In 1987, Thompson became an Attorney Advisor in the General Counsel's Office of the U.S. International Trade Commission and litigated numerous cases on the commission's behalf during his six-year tenure. [4] [5] [6] [7] He was involved in several important cases of the day including litigation involving a dispute with Canada over softwood lumber imports and with Norway over the dumping of salmon in U.S. markets and the investigations concerning Flat-Rolled Carbon Steel Products from numerous countries. [8]

For 14 months, he was detailed to the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative and was involved in dispute resolution cases concerning the General Agreement on Trade and Tariffs (GATT).

He has also worked for the New York international trade law firm of Donohue & Donohue and the Washington, DC firms of Plaia Schaumberg & deKieffer, Pettit and Martin, and Neville Peterson in which he became a partner.

In 1995, he became an Adjunct Professor [1] at the George Mason University Schar School of Policy and Government. Today, he teaches courses entitled ABCs of Importing and Exporting, International Contract Negotiation, and Export Controls and Compliance.

In 2008, he was appointed a World Trade Organization Arbitrator as a member of the U.S. Roster Dispute Resolution Panel.

Thompson started his own law firm in August 2014, Thompson and Associates, located in Washington, DC. He focusses on counseling regarding international trade issues.

His clients have included Xerox, Pepsi, Polaris Industries and others. [9]

He is admitted to the following bars: State of New York, District of Columbia, United States Court of International Trade and Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

Maurice Kugler is a Colombian American economist born in 1967. He received his Ph.D. in Economics from UC Berkeley in 2000, as well as an M.Sc.(Econ) and a B.Sc. (Econ) both from the London School of Economics. Dr. Kugler is Professor of Public Policy at George Mason University in the Schar School of Policy and Government. Prior, he worked as a consultant for the World Bank, where he was senior economist before (2010-2012). Most recently he was Principal Research Scientist and Managing Director at IMPAQ International. Before that, he was head of the Development Research and Data Unit of UNDP, where he was the lead writer of the Human Development Report. He was named in 2007 to the inaugural CIGI Chair in International Public Policy by the Laurier School of Business and Economics. In 2010, CIGI, the Centre for International Governance Innovation, jointly with University of Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier University launched the Balsillie School of International Affairs. Schar School of Policy and Government Constituent college of George Mason University

The Schar School of Policy and Government is a constituent college of George Mason University in Arlington, Virginia. Established in 2000 as northern Virginia's first public policy school, the school offers undergraduate degrees in international relations, public policy, public administration, and international security, along with master's and doctoral programs of study, to include specialized fields of study in biodefense and international commerce, as well as executive education programs. Terence P. Stewart

Terence P. Stewart is an American lawyer and managing partner of the law firm Stewart and Stewart. He has authored books on international trade law and testified numerous times before Congressional Committees on trade matters. He is notable for his focus on trade remedy law and has published extensively on law review in publications including the Georgetown Journal of International Law and The Washington Times.

Donald E. deKieffer was an American lawyer. He was the co-founder of deKieffer & Horgan, a Washington, D.C.-based international law firm, and the president of EDDI Inc., an anticounterfeiting and antidiversion company. In the 1970s, he acted as a lobbyist for the South African apartheid regime. He was the author of two books.
