Gerald Martin Pollet [1] (born 1958) [2] is a lawyer and a Democratic member of the Washington House of Representatives,representing the 46th District. He lost the race for that seat in 2008 to Scott White,but was appointed to fill the seat December 5,2011 after Rep. David Frockt,who was elected in 2010,moved over to the Washington State Senate to replace White,who had shifted to the senate in the 2010 election,then died in office. [3]
At the time of his appointment to the legislature,Pollet was serving as executive director of Heart of America Northwest,a watchdog group focused on the Hanford Nuclear Reservation cleanup. He has also been an officer of the state Coalition for Open Government,working there with former Republican state legislator Toby Nixon. [3]
Edward William Brooke III was an American politician of the Republican Party,who represented Massachusetts in the United States Senate from 1967 until 1979. Prior to serving in the Senate,he served as the Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts from 1963 until 1967. Following his election in 1966,he became the first African American popularly elected to the United States Senate. Born to a middle-class black family,Brooke was raised in Washington,D.C. He graduated from the Boston University School of Law in 1948,after serving in the United States Army during World War II. Beginning in 1950,he became involved in politics,when he ran for a seat in the Massachusetts House of Representatives. After serving as chairman of the Finance Commission of Boston,Brooke was elected attorney general in 1962,becoming the first African-American to be elected attorney general of any state.

The Alabama Republican Party is the state affiliate of the Republican Party in Alabama. It is the dominant political party in Alabama. The state party is governed by the Alabama Republican Executive Committee. The committee usually meets twice a year. As of the February 23,2019 meeting in Birmingham,the committee is composed of 463 members. Most of the committee's members are elected in district elections across Alabama. The district members are elected in the Republican Primary once every four years,with the most recent election for the committee having been on June 5,2018. The new committee takes office following the general election in November 2018. In addition,all 67 county GOP chairmen have automatic seats as voting members. The state chairman can appoint 10 members. Each county committee can appoint bonus members based on a formula that theoretically could add 312 seats,although that formula currently calls for only about 50 seats.

The Washington Redistricting Commission is a decennial body charged with redrawing congressional and legislative districts in the state of Washington after each census. On November 8,1983,Washington state passed the 74th amendment to its constitution via Senate Joint Resolution 103 to permanently establish the Redistricting Commission. Earlier that year the first commission redrew the state's congressional map after the previous one drawn by the legislature was ruled unconstitutional. Since after the 1990 census,a committee of four appointees of the majority and minority leaders of the House and Senate appoint a fifth member as non-voting chair,and meet to redistributes representative seats according to census results.
The 2018 United States elections were held on Tuesday,November 6,2018. These midterm elections occurred during Republican Donald Trump's term. Democrats made a net gain of 41 seats in the United States House of Representatives,gaining a majority in the chamber and thereby ending the federal trifecta that the Republican Party had established in the 2016 elections. The Republican Party retained control of the United States Senate,making a net gain of two seats and defeating four Democratic incumbents in states that had voted for Trump in 2016. As a result of the 2018 elections,the 116th United States Congress became the first Congress since the 99th United States Congress in which the Democrats controlled the U.S. House of Representatives and the Republicans controlled the U.S. Senate.
The 2022 United States Senate election in Vermont was held on November 8,2022,to elect a member of the United States Senate to represent the State of Vermont. Incumbent Democratic Senator Patrick Leahy,who was first elected in 1974 and most recently re-elected in 2016 with 61.3% of the vote,announced on November 15,2021,that he would not seek re-election. Leahy was the only Democratic senator who did not run for re-election in 2022. Democratic U.S. Representative Peter Welch won the open seat.

Washington state voters elected state representatives in all 98 seats of the House,electing 2 state representatives in each of the 49 Washington state legislative districts. The 2022 Vermont Senate election took place on November 8,2022,as part of the biennial United States elections. The election coincided with elections for other offices including the U.S. Senate,U.S. House,Governor,and State House. Vermont voters elected all 30 state senators from 16 districts,with each district electing between one and three senators. State senators serve two-year terms in the Vermont Senate. Primary elections were held on August 9,2022. This election will be the first to use new districts adopted by the Vermont General Assembly to allocate for population changes across the state after the 2020 census.
