Greg Urbas is a former teacher and head wrestling coach at St. Edward High School in Lakewood, Ohio.

Military career

From 1973–1977, Urbas was an officer in the United States Marine Corps. [1]

Teaching career

While at St. Edwards, Urbas was a math teacher. [2] He currently serves as a math tutor. [3]

Coaching career

Urbas was head coach at St. Edward for 29 years, from 1989 to 2018, where his teams won 24 state titles and 4 national titles. [4] In 1998, Urbas was named national wrestling coach of the year by the National High School Coaches Association. [5]

Steve Mocco is an American former amateur wrestler, judoka and mixed martial artist. As a collegiate wrestler, he was a two-time NCAA national champion, four-time finalist, and was awarded the Dan Hodge Trophy. Larry Lee "Zeke" Jones is an American wrestler who won a silver medal at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, a world championship in Varna, Bulgaria, in 1991, and was the former freestyle head coach at USA Wrestling. He is currently the head coach of the Arizona State University Wrestling team as of April, 2014. He was a six-time national freestyle champion, four-time World Cup champion, Pan American Games champion, and received the "World's Most Technical Wrestler Award" awarded by FILA, the international governing body for the sport. In college, he was a three-time All-American for Arizona State University and competed on the 1988 NCAA Championship team, coached by famed Bobby Douglas. After college, he wrestled on two world championships teams with the United States wrestling team. In 2005, he was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame as a Distinguished Member.

Townsend Saunders is an Olympic silver medalist in freestyle wrestling. Collegiately, Saunders was a two-time NCAA Division I All-American at Arizona State University and an NCAA Division II National Champion for California State University-Bakersfield. Townsend was also a Goodwill Games gold medalist in 1994 and won two Pan American Games gold medals in 1991 and 1995.

The University of Iowa men's wrestling program is one of the most successful NCAA Division I athletic programs. The University of Iowa Hawkeyes are a member of the Big Ten Conference. Iowa is second in NCAA history with 24 National Championships while finishing as a runner-up six times, with each of their championship appearances being since 1975.

Mark Philip Schultz is a former American freestyle wrestler. Schultz was a 3-time NCAA champion, Olympic champion and 2-time World champion. In 1995, Schultz was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame as a Distinguished Member. He is also in the San Jose Sports Hall of Fame, the California Wrestling Hall of Fame, and the San Mateo Peninsula Sports Hall of Fame.

Michael Najeeb Zadick is an American freestyle wrestler. He participated in Men's freestyle 60 kg at the 2008 Summer Olympics. He lost in the 1/8 finals to Vasyl Fedoryshyn

Brent Metcalf is an American former freestyle and folkstyle wrestler. Metcalf was a three-time member of the US World Team and two-time NCAA wrestling champion at the University of Iowa.

The Iowa State Cyclones wrestling team represents Iowa State University (ISU) and competes in the Big 12 Conference of NCAA Division I. The Cyclones are 8 time National Champions, 17 time National Runners-Up, and have 45 Top 4 "Trophy" Finishes. The team is coached by Kevin Dresser. The Cyclones host their home meets at Hilton Coliseum on Iowa State's campus. Iowa State became the second collegiate wrestling program to reach 1,100 dual wins on January 23, 2022.

Mark Jayne is a former American wrestler. He established himself in wrestling at St. Edward High School in Lakewood, Ohio. Jayne was a three-time state champion in for St. Edward, while his team won the Division I state title all four years he was there. The team also won three national titles during his time there in 1998, 1999, and 2000. Many feel the 1998 and 2000 version of the St. Edward wrestling teams were the best ever in Ohio history. During Jayne's time in high school he became a three-time Ironman champion, the first-ever four-time Medina Invitational champion, and was an Iron-Beast his senior year winning both the Ironman and Beast of the East tournaments in his only year there. His senior year proved very dominant by falling his way through sectionals, districts, and state. By the time he completed his high school career, he held the record for most career victories at the prestigious St Edward High School. He followed this up by being named to the USA Dream Team as a senior in 2000 as well as the Cleveland Plain Dealer "Lee Kemp Wrestler of the Year." He also found success in Freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling, earning seven All-American awards at the USA Nationals in Fargo, North Dakota. This includes a national title, a runner-up, and two thirds in the Junior division. His junior year he won the Ultimate Belt series for the high school division in Greco-Roman in both Ohio and the country.

Alan M. Fried is an American former freestyle and folkstyle wrestler. He was an NCAA National Champion, Espoir World Champion, three-time Ohio State Champion, and the first wrestler to win four Junior National Freestyle titles. He is also an author.

Lance Palmer is an American professional mixed martial artist and former collegiate wrestler, who currently competes in the featherweight division. A professional since 2011, he is most notable for competing in Professional Fighters League (PFL), where he was the 2018 and 2019 tournament champion. As a folkstyle wrestler, he was a four-time NCAA Division I All-American and four-time OHSAA state champion.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers wrestling team represents the University of Nebraska–Lincoln in the Big Ten Conference of NCAA Division I. The program has won seven conference titles and eleven individual NCAA championships. The team has been coached by Mark Manning since 2000.
