Guam Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse

The Guam Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse (DMHSA, Chamorro : Dipattamenton Salut Hinasso Yan Abuson Amot) is a government agency of Guam. The agency's main facility is located in Tamuning, across from Guam Memorial Hospital. [1] [2]

Guam Senator M.K. Hartsock introduced a bill that would create the DMHSA. Hartsock's bill became public law 17-21, and the DMHSA was established on August 19, 1983. Prior to that date, the Guam Memorial Hospital provided mental health services. [1] Later, Guam Memorial Hospital closed their psychiatric unit and Guam Department of Mental Health became the only location for adult inpatient psychiatric services. Guam Department of Mental Health currently provides most services free of charge. They have the capacity for two inpatient acute adult inpatient units and one acute child inpatient unit. They have several outpatient programs, residential programs, parent support services, suicide prevention services, substance abuse treatment, and more. They have both general psychiatrists and child psychiatrists on staff.

Silver Hill Hospital is a non-profit psychiatric hospital in New Canaan, Connecticut established in 1931. The hospital is accredited by the Joint Commission and provides behavioral health care treatment. This includes psychiatric and addiction services.

Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento (SMCS) is a medical center in Sacramento, California, that has been named one of the Top 100 Hospitals in the US for five years, including 2013–2015. It is owned and operated by Sutter Health, a Northern California not-for-profit health system. The center offers both community-based and tertiary medical services. In 2015, the center consolidated its Sutter Memorial Hospital campus in East Sacramento with its midtown Sutter General Hospital location, with the opening of the Anderson Lucchetti Women's and Children's Center and the complete remodeling of Sutter General Hospital into the Ose Adams Medical Pavilion. The Eastern Shore Hospital Center is a 76-bed psychiatric facility that is located in Cambridge, Maryland. It is owned and operated by the State of Maryland, under the Maryland Department of Health. Levels of care provided include acute and long-term inpatient psychiatric hospital services for adults aged 18 and older. The center also operates an on-site 16-bed residential Assisted Living Program that is known as Stepping Stone at Manokin. The 40-bed Upper Shore Community Mental Health Center, a psychiatric hospital that was located in Chestertown, and the Eastern Shore Hospital Center were jointly administered for a number of years. The Upper Shore Community Mental Health Center was closed in March 2010.

The Psychiatric Institute of Washington (PIW) is an acute psychiatric hospital in Washington, D.C. Opened in 1967, PIW is a short-term, private hospital. It offers behavioral healthcare to patients with mental and addictive illnesses, including children, adolescents, adults and the elderly. Services offered by PIW include inpatient, partial and intensive outpatient hospitalization, and group treatment programs for substance abuse and addiction.
