Gupteshwar Pandey is a retired Indian Police Service officer. He served as Director General of Police of Bihar. [2] [3] He has taken voluntary retirement on 22 September 2020, five months before completion of his service tenure (28 February 2021). [4] He was succeeded by Sanjeev Kumar Singhal. [5]
Gupteshwar Pandey was born in 1961 in Geruabandh village of Buxar district. His village was away from basic facilities like electricity, health, education, and roads. After completing his intermediate, he studied at Patna University. He earlier appeared for the UPSC exam in Sanskrit language and was allotted Indian Revenue Service - Income Tax after which he reappeared for UPSC and joined the Indian Police Service in 1987 and was allotted his home cadre (Bihar).
He served as superintendent of police in several major districts of Bihar. While serving as inspector-general of police of the Tirhut Division Muzaffarpur Range, he started many initiatives to curb crime and make police people-friendly. [6]
In November 2015, the Bihar Government banned alcohol. Gupteshwar Pandey travelled across Bihar and campaigned for an alcohol ban. [7]
Pandey earlier applied for VRS (Voluntary Retirement Scheme) before the 2014 Lok Sabha election but he was not given a ticket from Buxar constituency, later he withdrew his VRS application. In 2020, after quick approval of his VRS from Governor Phagu Chauhan, an exception was made in his case with the waiver of a mandatory three-month-long cooling-off period for government servants to join politics. Pandey joined Janata Dal (United) on 27 September 2020 at party supreme and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s residence in Patna. [8] [9] [10]

Upendra Kumar Singh, commonly known as Upendra Kushwaha is an Indian politician, and a former Member of Bihar Legislative Council and Bihar Legislative Assembly. He has also served as Minister of State for Human Resources and Development in the Government of India. Kushwaha is a former Member of Parliament (MP) from the Karakat constituency in Rohtas district, Bihar, and a former member of the Rajya Sabha. He was the leader of Rashtriya Samata Party (RSP), his own party, which merged into Janata Dal (United) (JDU) in 2009. Later, he formed Rashtriya Lok Samata Party (RLSP), which also merged with JD(U) in 2021. On 20 February 2023, Kushwaha resigned from all positions in Janata Dal (United) and formed his own party called Rashtriya Lok Janata Dal due to his political problems with JD(U) and Nitish Kumar.

Raghunath Pandey was an Indian politician and businessperson from Muzaffarpur, Bihar. He served as the Member of the Legislative Assembly in Muzaffarpur from 1980 to 1995 by Indian National Congress ticket. Pandey lost the 1991 general elections from Muzaffarpur to George Fernandes. He filed a case in Patna High Court and finally he won but till then the Parliament was dissolved. He again lost in the 1995 assembly elections.

The Bihar State Haj Committee is a statutory body for Haj pilgrimage under the Ministry of Minority Welfare in Government of Bihar. It is located at the Ali Imam Path on the Harding Road, Patna in the Indian state of Bihar. It is built and managed under the Hajj Committee of India, and recognised under the Haj Committee Act, 2002. The committee runs a Haj House at Patna, the State capital named Patna Haj Bhawan. It is chaired by the Alhaj Abdul Haque as the chairman. The committee looks over the Haj pilgrimage in the state of Bihar. The Patna Haj Bhawan was inaugurated by Nitish Kumar, Chief Minister of Bihar on 17 October 2007.
