The Houston Independent School District (HISD) is the largest public school system in Texas, and the eighth-largest in the United States. Houston ISD serves as a community school district for most of the city of Houston and several nearby and insular municipalities in addition to some unincorporated areas. Like most districts in Texas it is independent of the city of Houston and all other municipal and county jurisdictions. The district has its headquarters in the Hattie Mae White Educational Support Center in Houston.

The district's headquarters are located in the Deane L. Sadler Administration/Technology Center in Conroe. The CISD area, which covers 348 square miles (900 km2), is part of the Lone Star College System.

Established in 1881, the district serves most of the City of Austin and surrounding towns, the City of Sunset Valley, the Village of San Leanna, and unincorporated areas in Travis County. The district operates 129 schools including 84 elementary schools, 19 middle schools, and 17 high schools. As of 2013 AISD covers 172.4 square miles (447 km2) of land within the City of Austin, making up 54.1% of the city's territory.

Hamshire is an unincorporated community in western Jefferson County, Texas, United States. It is part of the Beaumont–Port Arthur Metropolitan Statistical Area and located on State Highway 124 twenty miles southwest of Beaumont. It was probably named for Lovan Hamshire, who developed the land as early as the 1870s. Hamshire was on the Gulf and Interstate Railway with a post office being established there in 1897. A townsite plat was filed in 1911 by Theodore F. Koch. Another major land dealer, Herbert Roedenbeck, subdivided additional land south of the railroad later that year, giving the subdivision the name Hamshire Gardens. Although there was interest shown by local rice farmers, Hamshire had only fifty inhabitants in 1928. The Fannett (1927) and Stowell (1941) oil fields discovery initiated new development in western Jefferson County. By 1940, the population in Hamshire had grown to 200. Natural gas production at the Hamshire field also continued to be of major importance to the community's economy through the 1980s. By 1985 the community had an estimated 350 residents and twenty-two businesses. In 1990 the population remained an estimated 350. Currently, Alexandra Clubb resides as the mayor of Hamshire.
LaBelle is an unincorporated community on Taylor Bayou and FM 365, ten miles south of Beaumont, in central Jefferson County, Texas, United States. It is part of the Beaumont–Port Arthur Metropolitan Statistical Area. Although officially recognized settlers had lived in the Taylor Bayou area since the 1830s, a post office was not established at the community known as Lower Taylor's Bayou until 1888. In that year new postmaster J. E. Broussard named the post office LaBelle in honor of his fiancée, Mary Bell Bordages. The area's first school was probably started by Leo Craigen, near what later became the Port Arthur Country Club. Located in the fertile but flood-prone prairies of the upper Texas Gulf Coast, LaBelle was the site of one of several pumping stations designed to control flooding and drainage along Taylor Bayou. Because of its somewhat isolated location, the LaBelle post office was discontinued in 1914. Local schools were consolidated with those of the town of Fannett in 1923. Fourteen years later, however, the discovery of large quantities of oil and natural gas at the LaBelle oilfield, five miles south of the community, sparked new interest in the area. Scattered residences, the pumping station, and oilfields and gas lines to the south marked the LaBelle community on maps during the mid-1970s.

For the 2018–2019 school year, the district received an A grade from the Texas Education Agency.
Hamshire-Fannett High School is a public high school located in Hamshire, Texas, United States and classified as a 4A school by the University Interscholastic League (UIL). It is part of the Hamshire-Fannett Independent School District located in western Jefferson County. In 2015, the school was rated "Met Standard" by the Texas Education Agency.
Aldine Senior High School is a public high school located in the Greenspoint district of northern Houston, Texas, United States. It is part of the Aldine Independent School District. The senior high school campus serves grades 10 through 12. The separate Aldine Ninth Grade School hosts students in grade 9.
