The Hyperion Theater is located at Disney California Adventure in Hollywood Land. [1] The theater sat up to 1,984 people.
The facade was modeled after that of the Los Angeles Theatre on LA's Broadway.
The Hyperion Theater opened with the park on February 8, 2001; the theater closed on August 31, 2023.
The theater held the world premiere for Spy Kids on March 18, 2001.
The venue's first show was Disney's Steps in Time, a musical featuring songs from various Disney films. Later that year, The Power of Blast, a scaled-down version of the musical Blast! was created for the theater. The Power of Blast closed in fall 2002 to make room for Disney's Aladdin: A Musical Spectacular . Inspired by Disney's 1992 animated film Aladdin , the show premiered in January 2003.
In spring 2010, it was initially announced that Disney's Aladdin: A Musical Spectacular would close and be replaced by Toy Story: The Musical . However, later that year it was announced that the plans were cancelled and that the Aladdin musical would remain for the time being. [2]
The theater also held the world premiere for Disney's The Lone Ranger on June 22, 2013. [3] [4]
Disney's Aladdin: A Musical Spectacular closed in January 2016. It was announced that the venue's next show would be a musical inspired by Disney's 2013 animated film Frozen , entitled Frozen – Live at the Hyperion . The show premiered in May 2016. [5] [6]
Earlier this year, it was announced that a one-act version of Rogers: The Musical , the fictional Broadway musical based around the Marvel Cinematic Universe's version of Captain America that was first introduced in the Disney+ series Hawkeye , would play a limited engagement, and it did. It was the venue's final show before it closed for good on Thursday, August 31st, 2023. [7]
In April 2003, a 36-year-old stage technician fell 60 feet from a catwalk in the theater, prompting an investigation by the California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Cal/OSHA). The victim did not regain consciousness following the incident and died in May 2003. In October 2003, Cal/OSHA fined the Disneyland Resort $18,350 for safety violations related to the cast member's death. [8]
In September 2011, a performance of Disney's Aladdin: A Musical Spectacular was immediately stopped when the flying carpet, while flying out over the audience, stopped and flipped over with two performers on it who were strapped in. No one was hurt in the incident. [9]

Fantasmic! is a nighttime show at Disneyland and Disney's Hollywood Studios. The show formerly operated at Tokyo DisneySea. It features fireworks, characters, live actors, water effects, pyrotechnics, lasers, music, audio-animatronics, searchlights, decorated boat floats, and mist screen projections. The narrative of Fantasmic! is a voyage through Mickey Mouse's imagination that culminates in a battle against the Disney Villains.
Muppet*Vision 3D is a 3D film attraction located at Disney's Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World. The attraction also formerly operated at Disney California Adventure. Directed by Jim Henson, the attraction consists of a pre-show which then leads into Kermit the Frog guiding park guests on a tour through Muppet Studios, while the Muppets prepare their sketch acts to demonstrate their new breakthrough in 3D film technology. The show, however, completely unravels when Dr. Bunsen Honeydew's experimental 3D sprite, Waldo, causes mayhem during the next portion of the show.

The show is inspired by Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color anthology television series, as evidenced by the use of its eponymous theme song written by the Sherman Brothers.
Toy Story: The Musical is a rock musical theatre with music and lyrics by Valerie Vigoda and Brendan Milburn, and additional music and lyrics by Randy Newman, and a book by Mindi Dickstein. Based on the Disney·Pixar's 1995 animated film of the same name. The show was created by Walt Disney Creative Entertainment for Disney Cruise Line, replacing the earlier Hercules: The Muse-Ical. After a year of pre-production and workshops, it had a soft premiere on board the Disney Wonder in March 2008, with an official opening on April 10, 2008. The show was performed in the Walt Disney Theatre, the grand showplace located on Deck 4.

Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular was a nighttime show at Disney's Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World. The show is based on the Star Wars film series and features fireworks, projection mapping, fire, lasers, fog effects, and searchlights. During the show, Star Wars imagery is projected onto the park's Chinese Theater facade and surrounding buildings around the park's hub on Hollywood Boulevard. The show had its celebrity-filled World Premiere on Friday, June 17, 2016, replacing the park's similarly-themed display, Symphony in the Stars: A Galactic Spectacular.

The show premiered on May 27, 2016 and had its last four performances on March 13, 2020; the theater then closed March 14.
