i.TV (pronounced i dot TV) is a second screen and social television technology company, and creator of tvtag, a second screen app for iPhone. [1] [2]

i.TV is also behind the popular namesake app for iOS [3] and Android, [4] [5] and is co-creator of Nintendo TVii for the Nintendo Wii U video game console. [6]

i.TV has standing partnerships with AOL, Huffington Post and Entertainment Weekly magazine (EW), for which it powered viEWer, a social television platform that enabled television viewers to interact with each other and EW editors, [7] and product integration agreements with TiVo, [8] Netflix, [9] Hulu, [10] and Comcast. i.TV's financial backers include venture capital firms Union Square Ventures (backer of Twitter, Tumblr and other companies), RRE Ventures, Rho Ventures, Time Warner Investments, DIRECTV, and others. [12]

i.TV's advisory board includes Carlton Cuse, executive producer of ABC's Lost and A&E's Bates Motel , who in 2010 was named to the Time 100, an annual list of the "100 most influential people in the world"; [13] and Gordon Ho, former executive vice president of Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment. History

i.TV was founded in 2008 by Brad Pelo, who serves as CEO, and Justin Whittaker. Pelo previously co-founded Folio Corporation and served as founding CEO of the parent company of Ancestry.com, [15] among other ventures and projects.[ citation needed ]

In May 2011 i.TV and AOL together re-launched AOL's online destination for TV viewers, AOL TV, based on i.TV's technology platform. AOL TV receives 1.6 million hits per day. [16]

In November 2013 i.TV acquired GetGlue, maker of a leading second screen and social TV check-in platform. [17] Headquartered in New York City, GetGlue reportedly has over 4.5 million registered users. [12] [2]

In January 2014 i.TV launched tvtag, a second screen iPhone app that provides a feed of television moments that users can then share, doodle on and comment on in a variety of ways. These moments in a “tagline” are captured and curated by a team of 50 staffers. [1]

A year later, tvtag was shut down. [18]

Pelo has founded or been a member of the founding team at a number of companies, including Folio Corporation, Ancestry.com, and NextPage. He also served on the board of directors of Tokyo-based D&M Holdings, the holding company for leading audio brands including Denon, Marantz, McIntosh Laboratories and Boston Acoustics. Pelo is also a movie producer and live event producer.

tvtag was a social networking website and mobile app for television fans. Users "check into" the shows, movies and sports that they consumed using a website, a mobile website, or a mobile app.

In April 2012, Facebook acquired the service for approximately US$1 billion in cash and stock. It was started as a social discovery and engagement platform with 2nd-screen TV, creating the concept of social television.

The Nintendo Network is Nintendo's online service which provides online functionality for the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U systems and their compatible games. Announced on January 26, 2012 at an investors' conference, it is Nintendo's second online service after Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. Former president of Nintendo Satoru Iwata said, "Unlike Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, which has been focused upon specific functionalities and concepts, we are aiming to establish a platform where various services available through the network for our consumers shall be connected via Nintendo Network service so that the company can make comprehensive proposals to consumers."

Facebook Messenger is an American messaging app and platform developed by Facebook, Inc. Originally developed as Facebook Chat in 2008, the company revamped its messaging service in 2010, and subsequently released standalone iOS and Android apps in August 2011 and standalone Facebook Portal hardware for Messenger-based calling in Q4 2018. Later on, Facebook has launched a dedicated website interface (Messenger.com), and separated the messaging functionality from the main Facebook app, allowing users to use the web interface or download one of the standalone apps. In April 2020, Facebook officially released Messenger for Desktop, which is supported on Windows 10 and macOS and distributed on Microsoft Store and App Store respectively.

Acompli is a discontinued mobile app that allowed for user interaction with email messages as well as management of multiple email accounts in one programme. In addition, the tool also organized one's calendar and shared files. This application provided for integration with cloud storage platforms such as Dropbox, OneDrive, and iCloud; it also carried support for Microsoft Exchange and Gmail. Acompli launched on 24 April 2014. The startup company, which had $7.3 million in funding, was led by CEO Javier Soltero, J.J. Zhuang (CTO) and Kevin Henrikson.
