ITXC Corporation (Internet Telephony Exchange Carrier) was a US-based wholesale provider of Voice over IP (VoiP), Internet-based phone calls.

It was co-founded by Tom Evslin and his wife Mary in 1997 with seed money from AT&T and VocalTec (Nasdaq :  VOCL). [1] In 2000, it had the largest Internet telephony network in the world[ citation needed ]. The company was acquired by Teleglobe Bermuda Ltd. in 2004. [2]

Technology

The technology to power ITXC's voice over IP network was initially provided by Israeli company VocalTec, [1] who also owned 20% of the company but later sold its stake. In 2003 the company moved to exclusively use Cisco's equipment. [3]

Its name comes from the asterisk (*) symbol for a signal used in dual-tone multi-frequency (DTMF) dialing.

G.729 ITU-T Recommendation

G.729 is a royalty-free narrow-band vocoder-based audio data compression algorithm using a frame length of 10 milliseconds. It is officially described as Coding of speech at 8 kbit/s using code-excited linear prediction speech coding (CS-ACELP), and was introduced in 1996. The wide-band extension of G.729 is called G.729.1, which equals G.729 Annex J.

SipXecs

sipXecs is an open-source enterprise communications system. It was initially developed as a proprietary voice over IP telephony server in 2003 by Pingtel Corporation in Boston, MA, and later extended with additional collaboration capabilities in the SIPfoundry project. Its core feature is a software implementation of the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), which makes it an IP based communications system.

VocalTec Israeli telecom equipment provider

VocalTec Communications Inc. is an Israeli telecom equipment provider. The company was founded in 1985 by Alon Cohen and Lior Haramaty, who patented the first Voice over IP audio transceiver. VocalTec has supplied major customers such as Deutsche Telekom, Telecom Italia, and many others.

Lior Haramaty is the co-founder of VocalTec Inc. (1989) and the inventor of the Audio Transceiver used in the creation of Voice Over Networks products and eventually the VoIP industry.

The company, founded in 1996 and headquartered in Berlin, is a wholly owned subsidiary of VTech Holdings Limited, since 2016.

Deltathree Inc. is an American company engaged in the business of voice over IP telephony services. The company was one of the first in the world to offer a telephony service over the internet.

Inteliquent

Inteliquent is a communications enabler offering network-based voice and messaging services to wireless, cable, carriers and communication service providers. Inteliquent's products include voice, toll-free, messaging, and emergency services. Inteliquent is privately held by GTCR and is headquartered in Chicago, Illinois.

ip.access

ip.access Limited is a multinational corporation that designs, manufactures, and markets small cells technologies and infrastructure equipment for GSM, GPRS, EDGE, 3G, 4G and 5G. The company was acquired by Mavenir, the cloud-native software supplier to the communication service provider in September 2020.

BroadSoft, Inc. is a global communication software and service provider that was acquired by Cisco Systems in 2018. BroadSoft was founded in 1998 and completed its initial public offering public in 2010, and is headquartered in Maryland. It partners with more than 600 carriers and 25 of the world’s 30 largest service providers in 80 countries. BroadSoft’s customers include AT&T, Verizon Communications, Sprint, Charter Communications, Comcast, and Vodafone.
