Association football is the most popular sport in Indonesia, in terms of annual attendance, participation and revenue. It is played on all levels, from children to middle-aged men. Liga 1, the Indonesian domestic league is popular. The national body is the Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI). The Indonesian football league started around 1930 in the Dutch colonial era.

The 2018 Liga 3 was the second season of the Liga 3 under its current name, the third season under its current league structure, and the only amateur league football competition in Indonesia.

The 2018 Liga 1 U-16 was the first season of the Liga 1 Elite Pro Academy U-16. The league is currently the youth level (U-16) football league in Indonesia. The season started on 15 September 2018 and finished on 9 December 2018.

The 2019 Liga 1, also known as Shopee Liga 1 for sponsorship reasons, was the third season of Liga 1 under its current name and the 10th season of the top-flight Indonesian professional league for association football clubs since its establishment in 2008. The season started on 15 May 2019 and finished on 22 December 2019. Fixtures for the 2019 season were announced on 7 May 2019.

2019 Indonesia Pro Futsal League was the twelfth season of Indonesia Pro Futsal League organized by the Indonesia Futsal Federation, as well as the fourth season of the futsal competition under the name "Pro Futsal League". Sixteen Indonesian futsal clubs will compete for this competition, with four clubs from the 2018 Nusantara Futsal League semi-finalists. Vamos Mataram are the defending champions from last season. This season started from 8 December 2018 until the final stage on 31 March 2019.

The 2020 Liga 1, also known as Shopee Liga 1 for sponsorship reasons, was the fourth season of Liga 1 under its current name and the 11th season of the top-flight Indonesian professional league for association football clubs since its establishment in 2008. The season started on 29 February 2020 and was suspended on 16 March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The season was abandoned and declared void on 20 January 2021.

The 2020 Indonesia Pro Futsal League, was the thirteenth season of the Indonesia Pro Futsal League competition held by the Indonesian Futsal Federation, as well as the fifth season of futsal competition under the name "Professional Futsal League". The season started on 7 December 2019 and ended on 28 March 2021.

Indonesian Women's Professional Futsal League is the main competition futsal for women at the national level and is in Indonesia, organized by the Indonesian Futsal Federation (FFI). This competition began in the 2012–2013 season and until now it has been arranged 6 times. This competition was held in conjunction with the title of the Indonesia Pro Futsal League.

The Indonesia national under-20 futsal team for represents Indonesia in international futsal competitions that pertain to under-20 age level. Andri Kustiawan, known as Andrew, is an Indonesian professional futsal player who currently plays for Indonesia Pro Futsal League club Bintang Timur Surabaya and the Indonesia national team.

The 2022–23 Liga 1 was the 13th season of the Liga 1, the top Indonesian professional league for association football clubs since its establishment in 2008. It started on 23 July 2022. Bali United were the two-time defending champions.

The season started after the men's 2022–23 Indonesia Pro Futsal League entered the later half of the season. It was held from 27 May 2023 to 2 July 2023.

The Indonesia Futsal Federation is the governing body of futsal in Indonesia and a member association of Indonesia's football governing body, PSSI. It was founded on 22 June 2014. FFI regulates the activities of the Indonesian men's and women's national futsal teams. It also runs the Indonesian Professional Futsal League competition for both men and women.
