Interbanca S.p.A. was an Italian merchant bank that specializes in lending and financing transactions for medium-sized firms. Its headquarters are in Milan and it has 10 branches in major cities throughout Italy.

Following a series of acquisitions in the Italian banking industry, Interbanca became a subsidiary of Banco Santander. In March 2008, the bank was purchased by GE Commercial Finance and renamed to GE Capital Interbanca. It was sold to Banca IFIS in November 2016, as part of a strategy by GE to reduce its financial services division. The bank is under Banca IFIS Impresa division of the group.

History

A consortium of banks comprising Banco Ambrosiano, Banca d'America e d'Italia, and Banca Nazionale dell'Agricoltura, founded Interbanca – Banca per i Finanziamenti a Medio Termine in 1961. By 1997 it had come under the control of Banca Antonveneta, which in 1999 acquired Banca Nazionale dell'Agricoltura. In June 1999, its parent listed Interbanca on the stock exchange, but then in February 2003 wholly acquired it. [ citation needed ]

In 2006, ABN AMRO acquired Antonveneta, only to be itself acquired by a consortium consisting of The Royal Bank of Scotland Group, Fortis, and Santander. Banco Santander took control of Antonveneta in October 2007 and sold it on to Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena in November at a 36% premium over the valuation for the acquisition. Although Banco Santander had sold Antonveneta, it retained Interbanca for the time being. [2]

In March 2008, Santander sold Interbanca to GE Commercial Finance, receiving in return GE Money businesses in Germany, Finland and Austria, and GE's Card and Auto Financing Businesses in the UK.[ citation needed ]

In May 2015, GE appointed the Deutsche Bank to sell the Interbanca, then had a net assets of over € 1,000,000,000. [3]

In 2016 Banca IFIS acquired Interbanca for €160 million, with an obligation to repay the inter-company debt, totalling €2.1 billion, to GE. [4]

Interbanca was merged with the parent company Banca IFIS on 23 October 2017. [5] [6]

Banca Antonveneta

Banca Antonveneta S.p.A. was an Italian bank based in Padua, Italy. The bank was absorbed into Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena in 2013.

Banca Intesa S.p.A. was an Italian banking group. It was formed in 1998. In the next year the banking group merged with another bank Banca Commerciale Italiana to become IntesaBCi. However, the name of the group was reverted to Banca Intesa in 2003. In 2007 Banca Intesa merged with another banking group Sanpaolo IMI to become Intesa Sanpaolo, one of few domestic systemically important bank of Italy.

Banco di Sicilia

Banco di Sicilia was an Italian bank based in Palermo, Sicily. It was a subsidiary of UniCredit but absorbed into the parent company in 2010.

Intesa Sanpaolo

Intesa Sanpaolo S.p.A. is an Italian international banking group. It is Italy's largest bank by total assets and the world's 27th largest. It was formed through the merger of Banca Intesa and Sanpaolo IMI in 2007, but has a corporate identity stretching back to its first foundation as Istituto Bancario San Paolo di Torino in 1583.

MPS Capital Services Banca per le Imprese S.p.A. known as MPSCS in short, is an Italian corporate and investment bank based in Florence, Tuscany. The bank is a subsidiary of Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena. The subsidiary was known as MPS Banca per l'Impresa until 2007.

Banca Popolare di Vicenza

Banca Popolare di Vicenza (BPVi) was an Italian bank and currently a winding-down company. The banking group along was the 15th-largest retail and corporate bank of Italy by total assets at 31 December 2016, according to Mediobanca. However, its sister bank Veneto Banca also ranked 16th in the same ranking, making the whole banking group that under Atlante, had a higher pro-forma total assets than 10th of the same ranking, Crédit Agricole Italia. Due to its size, BPVi and Veneto Banca were both supervised by the European Central Bank directly, instead of the Bank of Italy.

Cassa di Risparmio di Biella e Vercelli S.p.A. known as BiverBanca, is an Italian saving bank based in Biella, Piedmont. It was acquired by fellow Piedmontese bank Cassa di Risparmio di Asti from Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena in 2012. BiverBanca had almost all the branches in Piedmont and Aosta Valley, especially in the area around Biella and Vercelli : 46 branches in the Province of Biella and 46 branches in the Province of Vercelli, 10 in Turin and 6 in the Province Novara; 3 in the Province of Alessandria; 5 branches in Aosta Valley; 1 branch in the Province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola, and lastly 1 branch in Milan, the financial hub of Italy.

Finsoe S.p.A. is an intermediate holding company for several coop societies of Coop (Italy). Finsoe was the major shareholders of Unipol and in the past, had a direct minority shareholding in Unipol Banca. Until 2015 Unipol had two class of shares, making Finsoe hold 50.75% voting rights and 31.40% share capital on Unipol. However, in mid-2015 all shares were converted to ordinary shares.

Banca del Salento – Credito Popolare Salentino S.p.A. was an Italian bank from Lecce, Apulia. The bank was named after historic Salento region. The bank was acquired by Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena in 2000, and transformed into Banca 121.
