Isabel Grace Daniel is an American college ice hockey forward for Cornell University of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). She won the Patty Kazmaier Award in 2024.

Playing career

Daniel played four years of varsity hockey for The Blake School, winning two state championships and being named team MVP twice, all-conference three times, and all-state twice. She was a finalist for the Minnesota Ms. Hockey Award in 2019. [1]

Beginning her collegiate career for Cornell University in the 2019–20 season, Daniel recorded three goals and 14 assists in 29 games. Following the season, she was named Ivy League Rookie of the Year. [1] [2] The Ivy League cancelled the 2020–21 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. [3] During the 2021–22 season, in her sophomore year, she recorded nine goals and 25 assists in 30 games and was named to the All-ECAC Hockey Third Team. During the 2022–23 season in her junior year, Daniel led the Big Red in scoring with 18 goals and 30 assists in 32 games, earning second team All-ECAC and second team All-Ivy honors. [1] [4]

During the 2023–24 season, in her senior year, Daniel again led Cornell in scoring, with 21 goals and 38 assists in 34 games. She ranked second in the nation in assists per game (1.12), third in points per game (1.74), and seventh in goals per game (0.62). Her 38 assists tied the Cornell single-season record. [5] [6] Following the season, she was named to the All-Ivy and All-ECAC first teams, and won Ivy League Player of the Year, ECAC Forward of the Year, and ECAC Player of the Year. [7] She also won the 2024 Patty Kazmaier Award, becoming the first player from Cornell to win the award. [8]

Personal life

Daniel is the daughter of Greg and Beth Daniel. She has two younger brothers, Eli and Darley. [1] She studied industrial and labor relations at Cornell University. [9]

The Big Red were a member of the Eastern College Athletic Conference and were one of the most improved teams in the NCAA. The Big Red won 21 games, an improvement of nine wins over the 2008-09 season. The Big Red finished second in the USA Today poll and were 21-9-6 overall. The team won both the regular season ECAC title with a 14-2-6 record as well as the Ivy League title. Cornell won the league's post-season tournament, defeating Clarkson 4-3 in overtime in the championship game. The team qualified for the NCAA tournament and advanced to the championship game before losing to Minnesota-Duluth 3-2 in the third overtime period. Coach Derraugh was named the AHCA Division 1 Coach of the Year.

The 2019–20 NCAA Division I women's ice hockey season is the 19th season of competition in the National Collegiate division of NCAA women's ice hockey, the de facto equivalent of Division I in that sport. The season began in September 2019 and ended on March 10, 2020 following the conclusion of the ECAC Championship. The 2020 NCAA Division I women's ice hockey tournament at Agganis Arena in Boston which was supposed to be held March 20 and 22 was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
