Jean-Marie Massoubre

Jean Marie Massoubre (23 November 1921 - 23 August 2020) [1] [2] was a Michelin engineer associated with the early development of the radial tire. [3] He was later in his career on the board of directors of Michelin. [4]

Massoubre received his education in chemistry from ENSIC. During the school year 1943-1944, he received a research allowance to work as a Practical Work Monitor in physical chemistry. The allowance was renewed for the year 1944-1945, but Massoubre resigned as of 1 October 1944.

Massoubre was an R & D coordinator at Michelin. Over his career he received many patents for tire technology. [5] He was elected to the Board of Directors on November 21, 1986. He was re-elected to the Board of Directors on December 15, 1989, and elected Honorary Chairman of the Board of Directors on November 13, 1992.

Massoubre was the 1976 recipient of the Colwyn Medal. He was the 1989 recipient of the Charles Goodyear Medal.

The Tweel is an airless tire design developed by the French tire company Michelin. Its significant advantage over pneumatic tires is that the Tweel does not use a bladder full of compressed air, and therefore cannot burst, leak pressure, or become flat. Instead, the Tweel's hub is connected to the rim via flexible polyurethane spokes which fulfil the shock-absorbing role provided by the compressed air in a traditional tire.

The Charles Goodyear Medal is the highest honor conferred by the American Chemical Society, Rubber Division. Established in 1941, the award is named after Charles Goodyear, the discoverer of vulcanization, and consists of a gold medal, a framed certificate and prize money. The medal honors individuals for "outstanding invention, innovation, or development which has resulted in a significant change or contribution to the nature of the rubber industry". Awardees give a lecture at an ACS Rubber Division meeting, and publish a review of their work in the society's scientific journal Rubber Chemistry and Technology.

Murali Sastry is an Indian material chemist, nanomaterial scientist and the chief executive officer of the IITB-Monash Research Academy. He is a former chief scientist at Tata Chemicals and a former senior scientist at the National Chemical Laboratory. He is known for his studies on surfaces, films and materials chemistry and is an elected fellow of Maharashtra Academy of Sciences and the Indian Academy of Sciences. Bhaskar Dattatraya Kulkarni (1949–2019), popularly known as B. D. among his friends and colleagues, was an Indian chemical reaction engineer and a Distinguished Scientist of Chemical Engineering and Process Development at the National Chemical Laboratory, Pune. An INSA Senior Scientist and a J. C. Bose fellow, he was known for his work on fluidized bed reactors and chemical reactors. He is an elected fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences, Indian National Science Academy, The World Academy of Sciences and the Indian National Academy of Engineering. The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, the apex agency of the Government of India for scientific research, awarded him the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology, one of the highest Indian science awards for his contributions to Engineering Sciences in 1988.

Arthur Edgar Juve (1901–1965) was a B. F. Goodrich Director of Technology who developed oil-resistant rubber compositions, lab tests for tire treads, and improvements in manufacture of rubber products and the processing of synthetic rubber.
