During a 19-year professional playing career,Oliver played parts of 13 seasons in MLB for seven different teams during 1989–2001,and was a member of the World Series-winning 1990 Cincinnati Reds. He later managed in Minor League Baseball for the Boston Red Sox organization from 2014 through 2020,and in collegiate summer baseball in 2021 and 2022. As a player,Oliver was listed at 6 feet 3 inches (1.91 m) and 215 pounds (98 kg);he batted and threw right-handed.

The Pittsburgh Panthers baseball is the NCAA Division I intercollegiate baseball program of the University of Pittsburgh,often referred to as "Pitt",located in Pittsburgh,Pennsylvania. The Pitt baseball team competes in the Atlantic Coast Conference and plays their home games at Charles L. Cost Field in the Petersen Sports Complex. It is the university's oldest recorded sport,dating to 1869. Prior to joining the ACC in 2013-14,Pitt had won both the Big East Conference regular season and Big East Tournament championships. The 1986 Florida State Seminole baseball team represented Florida State University in the 1986 NCAA Division I baseball season. The Seminoles played their home games at Seminole Stadium. The team was coached by Mike Martin in his 7th season at Florida State.

The ABCA/Rawlings High School All-America Baseball Team has been named by the American Baseball Coaches Association every year since 1969,with the exceptions of 1993 and 2020. Between 1971–1975 and in 2000,only one team was selected per year. In 1969–1970,1976 and 1987,two teams were selected per year. Each team has consisted of between 10 and 25 players at various designated positions.
Lloyd Simmons is an American college baseball coach. He was the head coach for Seminole State College from 1976 to 2001 and from 2012 to 2016. He also served as a manager in Minor League Baseball and a scout. Simmons is a member of the National College Baseball Hall of Fame.
Jackson Matthew Holliday is an American professional baseball infielder in the Baltimore Orioles organization. He was selected first overall by the Orioles in the 2022 MLB draft and made his MLB debut in 2024. He is the son of former MLB All-Star Matt Holliday.
