Joanne Ruth Charlotte Accom (born 13 November 1978), mononymously known as Joanne, is an ARIA Award winning Australian singer-songwriter.

Career

Joanne's first single, "Jackie", was released in late 1998. It reached No. 3 on the ARIA Charts, [1] and became the highest selling single in Australia by an Australian artist during the 12-month period of eligibility for the 1999 ARIA Music Awards. For "Jackie", Joanne was credited as B.Z. featuring Joanne or Joanne/BZ, referring to the original performers of the song, Blue Zone.

She released the singles "Pack Your Bags" and "Are You Ready" in 1999.

Her next release was featuring on the track "Breakin' There's No Stoppin' Us" by Ilanda for The Wog Boy Movie in 2000.

Her only solo album, Do Not Disturb , was released in 2001 after being a work in progress for two and a half years. [2] It features a remix of "Jackie", her two singles released in 1999 and three new singles, "So Damn Fine", "I Don't Know", and "Busted". It was produced and recorded in Dance World Studios, South Melbourne.

Joanne featured on a duet version of Janet Jackson's "Together Again" with Australian singer Greg Gould for his 2020 duets album 1998.

Performances

She performed a number of her hits at Melbourne's Rumba along with other artists on Saturday 17 November 2001 at the Docklands Stadium.

She performed her hit "So Damn Fine" in front of a live audience across Australia at one of the Big Brother Australia 2001 live eviction shows during the closing credits.

Joanne joined the Vengaboys 2016 National Tour as a 'special local guest' alongside Tina Cousins, Sonique and Whigfield.

Joanne performed a number of her songs, including hit single "Jackie" and a selection of cover versions including C+C Music Factory's "Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)" at the Pump '90s dance party at ARQ in Sydney on 8 April 2017.

Black Box is an Italian house music group popular in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The group is currently made up of DJ Daniele Davoli, classically trained clarinet teacher Valerio Semplici, keyboardist and electronic musician Mirko Limoni, and vocalist Celestine Walcott-Gordon. Their song "Don't Call Me Baby" peaked at number two on the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Singles Chart in 1999 and topped the charts in New Zealand and the United Kingdom in 2000, as well as the Billboard dance charts the United States. Adeva is an American singer. She had a string of successful house and R&B hits in the late 1980s to early 1990s, including "Warning!", "I Thank You" and "Respect".

Gina G is an Australian singer who represented the United Kingdom at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1996, with the song "Ooh Aah... Just a Little Bit", which reached No. 1 in the UK Singles Chart. The song also reached the US top 20 in 1997 and earned her a 1998 Grammy Award nomination for Best Dance Recording. Ilanda were an Australian-based vocal harmony and dance group which formed in 1991 as Past to Present. Initially a four-piece, with Leighton Hema, Frank Laga'aia, Lennie Keller and his brother, Norman Keller. They are all New Zealand-born, though their heritage is Samoan. Past to Present teamed with Peter Andre to feature on his single, "Get Down on It", which peaked at No. 5 on the ARIA Singles Chart and No. 1 on the New Zealand Singles Chart. When Hema left the group in 1998 they went into hiatus for a year and reconvened as a three-piece under the name, Ilanda, which had three top 40 Australian singles. Their last release was in May 2000.

"Jackie" is a song written by Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly for the 1987 film, Summer School. It was originally recorded by Elisa Fiorillo and included on the Summer School soundtrack. In 1988, "Jackie" was recorded by Lisa Stansfield's band, Blue Zone for their 1988 album, Big Thing. It was released as a single and peaked at number fifty-four on the US Billboard Hot 100 and number thirty-seven on the Hot Dance Club Songs. In 1998, "Jackie" was recorded by Joanne, who used samples from the Blue Zone version. It was issued as B.Z. featuring Joanne and reached number three in Australia and number five in New Zealand.
