Joey Jackson (born September 15, 1966) is an American criminal defense attorney with a practice based in New York City. The former NY state prosecutor is a legal analyst for CNN and HLN [1] [2] [3] [4] and frequently contributes to other local and national media outlets as an analyst and legal expert. [3] [5] [6] [7]

Education

Jackson received a BA from SUNY Brockport, an MPA from SUNY Albany’s Nelson A. Rockefeller College of Public Affairs & Policy in 1992, and later a JD from Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University before being admitted to the New York State Bar Association (NYSBA). As a law student, Jackson served as editor for the Hofstra Labor and Employment Law Journal. [3]

Early career

As a graduate and professional student, Jackson held internships with the New York State Education Department (NYSED) and New York Democratic Congressman Charles Rangel’s office in Washington, D.C. While pursuing his Master's Degree, Jackson served as a Legislative Analyst for the New York State Assembly Speaker. Jackson is a former adjunct professor at Monroe College (Bronx, New York). [3]

Career

District Attorney

Under Robert Morgenthau, Jackson was appointed assistant district attorney in the New York County District Attorney's Office, which covered the borough of Manhattan from 1995 to 1998.

Defense attorney

As a defense attorney, Jackson has handled cases in areas of criminal defense, labor and employment, and civil service law.

Media personality

Jackson joined CNN and HLN in 2013, but has also recently appeared on Fox News, Fox Business Channel, Court TV, In Session, ABC, NBC, and MSNBC.

Sing Sing Correctional Facility, formerly Ossining Correctional Facility, is a maximum-security prison operated by the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision in the village of Ossining, New York. The first stages of expansion were accomplished largely by convict labor hauling in ashes for landfill. The island is politically part of the Bronx, although bridge access is from Queens. Scott Bernard Amedure was an American murder victim. During a taping of The Jenny Jones Show, a television talk show, Amedure revealed that he was attracted to an acquaintance, Jonathan Schmitz. Three days later, Schmitz confronted Amedure and shot him twice in the chest. He confessed to the killing and was found guilty of second-degree murder. The Amedure family successfully sued The Jenny Jones Show for wrongful death, but the judgment was subsequently overturned by the Michigan Court of Appeals. The episode was never broadcast, although segments of it were played for television news programs.

Clinton Correctional Facility is a New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision maximum security state prison for men located in the Village of Dannemora, New York. The prison is sometimes colloquially referred to as Dannemora, although its name is derived from its location in Clinton County, New York. The southern perimeter wall of the prison borders New York State Route 374. Church of St. Dismas, the Good Thief, a church built by inmates, is located within the walls. The prison is sometimes referred to as New York's Little Siberia, due to the cold winters in Dannemora and the isolation of the upstate area. It is the largest maximum security prison and the third oldest prison in New York. The staff includes about a thousand officers and supervisors.

Green Haven Correctional Facility is a maximum security prison in New York. The prison is located in the Town of Beekman in Dutchess County. The New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision lists the address as Route 216, Stormville, NY 12582. This prison housed New York's execution chamber during the time the state briefly had the death penalty in the post-Furman era. It was originally a federal prison and now houses maximum security inmates. Green Haven Correctional Facility also operated a Hot Kosher Foods Program; but no longer does as of 2020. However, because of this, the prison had a large Jewish population. Yale Law School operates the Green Haven Prison Project, a series of seminars among Yale law students and Green Haven inmates on law and policy issues concerning prisons and criminal law.

Larry Davis or, since 1989, Adam Abdul-Hakeem was an American man who was convicted in 1991 of a drug dealer's 1986 murder, known for his 1986 shootout in the Bronx with police, in which six officers were shot. Davis, asserting self-defense, was acquitted of all charges aside from illegal gun possession. In 2008, he died via stabbing by a fellow inmate.
