John Bradley Sherman is an American intelligence official who has served as the Chief Information Officer at the Department of Defense since December 17,2021. [1] Prior to that,he served from June 2020 to January 2021 as the Principal Deputy DOD Chief Information Officer. [2] Between 2017 and 2020 he served as Associate Director and Chief Information Officer of the Intelligence Community (IC) at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. [3]
Sherman graduated from Texas A&M University with a BA in history. He also earned a master's degree in public administration from the University of Houston. Following graduation from Texas A&M,he was a US Army Air Defense officer in the 24th Infantry Division. He is a graduate of the Department of Defense CAPSTONE course,ODNI's "Leading the IC" course,and the CIA Director's Seminar.
Sherman was formerly the deputy director of CIA's Open Source Enterprise (OSE). Before that,he served in several senior executive positions at NGA,dealing with analysis,collection,homeland security,organizational strategy,and international affairs.
Previously,Sherman was the principal deputy national intelligence officer for military issues on the National Intelligence Council,and as a White House Situation Room duty officer. He began his IC career in 1997 as a CIA imagery analyst assigned to the former National Imagery and Mapping Agency,now known as NGA.
On September 16,2021,President Joe Biden nominated Sherman to be the Chief Information Officer in the Department of Defense. [4] The Senate Armed Services Committee held hearings on his nomination on October 28,2021. On December 8,2021,the committee favorably reported Sherman's nomination to the Senate floor. The entire Senate confirmed his nomination via voice vote on December 14,2021. [5]
Sherman has been awarded the Meritorious Presidential Rank,the Intelligence Medal of Merit,NGA's Meritorious Civilian Service Medal,and Canada's Chief of Defense Intelligence Medallion. He is married with two grown children. [6]
The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) is a combat support agency within the United States Department of Defense whose primary mission is collecting,analyzing,and distributing geospatial intelligence (GEOINT) in support of national security. Initially known as the National Imagery and Mapping Agency (NIMA) from 1996 to 2003,it is a member of the United States Intelligence Community.

Mike McConnell is a former vice admiral in the United States Navy. During his naval career he served as Director of the National Security Agency from 1992 to 1996. His civilian career includes serving as the United States Director of National Intelligence from 20 February 2007 to 27 January 2009 during the Bush administration and also seven days of the Obama administration. He is currently Vice Chairman at Booz Allen Hamilton.

Dennis Cutler Blair is the former United States Director of National Intelligence and is a retired United States Navy admiral who was the commander of U.S. forces in the Pacific region. Blair was a career officer in the U.S. Navy and served in the White House during the presidencies of both President Jimmy Carter and President Ronald Reagan. Blair retired from the Navy in 2002 as an Admiral. In 2009,Blair was selected as President Barack Obama’s first Director of National Intelligence,but after a series of bureaucratic battles,he resigned on May 20,2010.

The Office of Intelligence and Counterintelligence (OICI),also abbreviated IN,DOE-IN,DOE/IN,I&CI,or OIC,was established in 2006 by the merger of pre-existing Energy Department intelligence and security organizations. It is an office of the United States Department of Energy (DOE) responsible for all intelligence and counterintelligence activities throughout the DOE complex;due to this central role,OICI is designated DOE's Headquarters Intelligence. The United States government's Information Sharing and Customer Outreach office or ISCO was one of five directorates within the office of the chief information officer (CIO) under the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI). ISCO changed its name and function to Information Technology Policy,Plans,and Requirements (ITPR) in July 2007. Established by at least February 2006,ISCO is led by the Deputy Associate Director of National Intelligence for Information Sharing and Customer Outreach,which is currently Mr. Richard A. Russell. ISCO's information sharing and customer outreach responsibilities extend beyond the United States Intelligence Community and cross the entire U.S. government.
James Robert Clapper Jr. is a retired lieutenant general in the United States Air Force and former Director of National Intelligence. Clapper has held several key positions within the United States Intelligence Community. He served as director of the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) from 1992 until 1995. He was the first director of defense intelligence within the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and simultaneously the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence. He served as the director of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) from September 2001 until June 2006.
Scott F. Large is an American intelligence officer who served as the sixteenth Director of the National Reconnaissance Office from 2007 to 2009. He previously served as the Principal Deputy Director of the National Reconnaissance Office from April to October 2007,and as the Central Intelligence Agency's Associate Deputy Director for Science and Technology.
In the United States the Associate Director of National Intelligence and Chief Information Officer is charged with directing and managing activities relating to information technology for the Intelligence Community (IC) and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI). Robert Cardillo is a Distinguished Fellow at Georgetown University’s Center for Security and Emerging Technology. Prior to this appointment,he was the sixth Director of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency and was sworn in October 3,2014. He was previously selected by Director of National Intelligence James Clapper to serve as the first Deputy Director of National Intelligence for Intelligence Integration in September 2010. Clapper said in a statement that the position would "elevate information sharing and collaboration" between those who collect intelligence and those who analyze it. Cardillo previously served as deputy director of the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA). Prior to that,he served as the deputy director for Analysis,DIA,and Director,Analysis and Production,National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA).
The Boren-McCurdy intelligence reform proposals were two legislative proposals from Senator David Boren and Representative Dave McCurdy in 1992. Both pieces of legislation proposed the creation of a National Intelligence Director. Neither bill passed into law.
Avril Danica Haines is an American lawyer and senior government official who serves as the director of national intelligence in the Biden administration. She is the first woman to serve in this role. Haines previously served as Deputy National Security Advisor and Deputy Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in the Obama administration. Prior to her appointment to the CIA,she served as Deputy Counsel to the President for National Security Affairs in the Office of White House Counsel.
Susan M. Gordon served as Principal Deputy Director of National Intelligence until August 15,2019. Prior to assuming that role,she was the Deputy Director of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA),having assumed the position on January 1,2015. Before joining the NGA,she served as director of the CIA's Information Operations Center and senior cyber adviser to the Director of the Central Intelligence Agency. Gordon worked for the Central Intelligence Agency for over 25 years.
Dawn Eilenberger became the Deputy Director of National Intelligence in April 2017. Previously she was the Assistant Director of National Intelligence for Policy &Strategy,Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI). Rear Admiral Joseph John "Jack" Dantone Jr. of U.S. Navy,was last director of Defense Mapping Agency (DMA) from May 1996 to September 1996. He was also the Acting Director of National Imagery and Mapping Agency (NIMA) from October 1996 to March 1998. He played a major role in transition of DMA into NIMA.

He was confirmed by the Senate on September 30,2021,to be the permanent Inspector General. He previously served as general counsel of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency.
