Kate Kendall (born 27 July 1973) is a British-born Australian actress and director. She played Angie Piper in the long-running Nine Network Australian drama Stingers from 1998 to 2004. Kendall has appeared in television series The Librarians (2007), Rush (2010) and Conspiracy 365 . She joined the cast of television soap opera Neighbours in 2013 as Lauren Turner. After leaving the role in 2017, Kendall became a director, and later producer, on the serial.

Career

Kendall was born in England and moved to Australia with her family when she was six months old, where she was raised in Adelaide, South Australia. She studied at the Centre for Performing Arts (CPA) (now the Adelaide College of the Arts) in Adelaide. There she was taught by her father, David Kendall, who then headed the acting course. [2] Small parts in television shows such as Home and Away and Neighbours [3] led to a guest role as Rosie Burgess in Blue Heelers in 1997. [4] Her major television role has been as Angie Piper in Stingers , which role she played for 192 episodes from 1998 to 2004. [5]

Kendall played a minor role as Lisa in the American mini-series The Starter Wife (2007) [6] and also appeared in three episodes of the Australian produced comedy The Librarians (2007), as Jacinta McSweeney. [7] Kendall appeared on the Australian drama Rush in 2010. In 2011 Kendall played the lead role of Diana in MTC's production of Next to Normal and appeared in the Australian musical premiere of An Officer and a Gentleman. She also played Emily Ormond in the twelve-part drama series Conspiracy 365 , which was based on the book of the same name. [8] Kendall took over the role of Lauren Carpenter on Neighbours in 2013. As she was wrapping up the role of Lauren in 2017, Kendall began directing small scenes. She has since directed numerous episodes of the series. [10] In June 2020, it was announced that Kendall would become a producer. She covered for series producer Natalie Lynch, while she was on maternity leave. David Knox of TV Tonight believed Kendall was the show's first actor, director, producer. [10]

Kendall has directed the 2023 four-part series Heat , created by Jason Herbison. [11] [12]

Personal life

Kendall is married to former Carlton Football Club AFL player Wayne Johnston and has a son and four stepchildren. [13]

Stingers is an Australian police procedural crime drama television series. It premiered on 29 September 1998, and ran for eight seasons on the Nine Network before it was cancelled in late 2004 due to declining ratings, with its final episode airing on 14 December 2004. Inspired by true events, Stingers chronicled the cases of a deep undercover unit of the Victoria Police. "Episode 7202" is the 7202nd episode of the Australian soap opera Neighbours. It premiered on Eleven on 1 September 2015. The episode was written by series producer Jason Herbison and directed by Declan Eames. It is Neighbours' first three-hander in its thirty-year history. Typically episodes of the show feature the ensemble cast and multiple on-going storylines. Episode 7202 focuses on the conclusion to a long-running love triangle between Lauren Turner, Brad Willis and Terese Willis. Herbison hoped the episode would be memorable for viewers, while Gamblin was grateful that he, Elmaloglou and Kendall were trusted enough with it.

Damien Richardson is an Australian film, television and theatre actor. Since 2021 he has been a political campaigner promoting an anti-vax agenda. A graduate from the Victorian College of the Arts, Richardson has appeared in a variety of Australian films and television shows, including Blue Heelers, McLeod's Daughters, Redball, The Hard Word, Rogue, Conspiracy 365 and Wentworth. Frayed is an Australian-British comedy-drama television series on ABC TV and Sky UK. It premiered in the United Kingdom on 26 September 2019 and in Australia on 16 October. The plot focuses on two families as they take a joint vacation amidst the bushfire season. Heat stars Danny Dyer, Darren McMullen, Pia Miranda, and Jane Allsop. It was filmed in Melbourne and rural Victoria in November and December 2022.
