Kathi Martuza is an American professional ballet dancer who currently performs as a principal dancer with the Oregon Ballet Theatre. She previously danced with the San Francisco Ballet for six years [2] and is also known as Kathleen Martuza. [3]

Early life and education

Born in Boston, Martuza started her ballet training at the age of 12 at the Lexington School of Ballet in Massachusetts. After moving to Maryland with her family, she continued with Maryland Youth Ballet in Bethesda. She spent two summers with the Houston Ballet Academy and one summer at the American Ballet Theatre School. While a senior in high school, she took a master class with Betsy Erickson of the San Francisco Ballet and turned down an apprenticeship with the company in order to complete high school in Maryland. Career

Martuza joined the San Francisco Ballet at the age of 17 [1] in 1997. She was a member of SFB's corps de ballet (as Kathleen Martuza) until 2003. [4] [5]

Martuza joined Oregon Ballet Theatre in 2003 and was ranked principal dancer in 2007, [2] the year when OBT ranked its dancers for the first time. [6] She has had roles created for her by choreographers such as Mark Morris, James Kudelka, Christopher Stowell, Julia Adam, and Yuri Possokhov. [2]

In 2005, Martuza was named one of "25 to Watch" by Dance Magazine . [1] [7] She was also featured on the cover October/November 2007 issue of Pointe magazine. [8] Martuza started teaching ballet at Da Vinci Arts Middle School in Portland, Oregon, in September 2013, and is currently teaching there now.

Personal life

In June 2003, Martuza married Kester Cotton, whom she met while both were dancing with the San Francisco Ballet. [1] [3] Her husband, who also danced with OBT from 2003 through 2006, is now a Doctor of Physical Therapy [9] and a consulting staff member at The School of Oregon Ballet Theatre. [10] Martuza and Cotton have a son, Roy, born October 2011. [11]

Maria Kochetkova Russian ballet dancer

Maria Olegovna Kochetkova is a Russian ballet dancer. She was a principal dancer with the San Francisco Ballet between 2007 and 2018, and with the American Ballet Theatre between 2015 and 2017. After that, she became a freelance dancer for several years, before joining the Finnish National Ballet in the 2020/21 season.

Sofiane Sylve is a French ballet dancer. She is currently a principal dancer and ballet master with the Dresden Semperoper Ballett, and the artistic advisor and school director of Ballet San Antonio, and is set to run the latter's new school. Lorena Feijóo is a Cuban former ballet dancer. Her dance career started in 1988 at the Cuban National Ballet, but left Cuba two years later for more opportunities. After stints at Ballet de Monterrey, Royal Ballet of Flanders and Joffrey Ballet, she joined the San Francisco Ballet in 1999 as a principal dancer, and retired in 2017. She then became an associate artistic director of Bay Area Houston Ballet & Theatre. Her sister, Lorna Feijóo, was also a ballet dancer.

Hee Seo is a South Korean ballet dancer who is a principal dancer at the American Ballet Theatre (ABT), one of the three leading classical ballet companies in the United States. She became the company's first Korean ballerina to be promoted to principal dancer in ABT's 75-year history. She is also one of the youngest dancers in ABT history to be promoted to principal at the age of twenty-six.
