Kellen Briggs (born June 28, 1983) is an American former professional ice hockey goaltender.
Briggs graduated from Roosevelt High School in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He played three seasons with the USHL's Sioux Falls Stampede, where he led the USHL in saves (1,422) and total minutes played (2,529).
He spent the next four years (2003–2007) tending goal for the Minnesota Golden Gophers. He recorded 25 wins in his first year, which set the school record for a freshman. His sophomore year, he went with the team to the Frozen Four, and was co-recipient of the John Mariucci team MVP award.
Briggs' senior year at the University of Minnesota, he served as alternate team captain. [1] He was the first goaltender since 1973 to receive that honor. He helped the Golden Gophers win the McNaughton Cup and the Broadmoor Trophy in 2007. He also holds the school record for most wins in a career (84), and most shutouts in a career (13 [2] ).
In October 2007, Briggs played in his first professional game with the Idaho Steelheads. He was picked to play in the 2007 National Conference All-Star game in the ECHL, and had his first American Hockey League call-up when he was loaned to the Rockford IceHogs though he didn't get to play on ice. He moved to the Ontario Reign in 2008 which was followed by a spell in the AHL for the Portland Pirates. He then moved to Germany in the 2nd Bundesliga with Dresdner Eislöwen before returning to the Ontario Reign in 2010. [3]

The Sioux Falls Stampede are a Tier I junior ice hockey team based in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The Stampede are members of the Western Conference of the United States Hockey League (USHL). The team plays home games at the Denny Sanford Premier Center, the largest facility in capacity and size in the USHL. The team was established in 1999 and is owned by Sioux Falls Sports LLC.
Keith Galen Ballard is an American former professional ice hockey defenseman who previously played in the National Hockey League with the Phoenix Coyotes, Florida Panthers, Vancouver Canucks and Minnesota Wild. He played college hockey for the Minnesota Golden Gophers of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) for three seasons. After his freshman year, he was selected 11th overall by the Buffalo Sabres in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. Before he made his NHL debut, he was traded twice – initially to the Colorado Avalanche, then to the Phoenix Coyotes. He played his professional rookie season in 2004–05 with the Coyotes' American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Utah Grizzlies, then debuted with Phoenix the following season. After three years, he was traded to the Florida Panthers, where he spent two seasons before being dealt to Vancouver at the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
Blake James Wheeler is an American professional ice hockey player for the Winnipeg Jets of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was drafted by the Phoenix Coyotes in the first round, fifth overall, in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. Wheeler was born in Plymouth, Minnesota, but grew up in Robbinsdale, Minnesota. After failing to come to terms on a contract with the Phoenix Coyotes, he signed with the Boston Bruins as a free agent.
The Minnesota Golden Gophers men's ice hockey team is the college ice hockey team at the Twin Cities campus of the University of Minnesota. They are members of the Big Ten Conference and compete in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I ice hockey. The Golden Gophers have won five NCAA national championships, in 1974, 1976, 1979, 2002 and 2003. The team also shared the 1929 National Intercollegiate Athletic Association championship with Yale. and captured the national Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) championship for amateur hockey in 1940. The Gophers are currently coached by Bob Motzko. Under Don Lucia the Gophers earned a spot in the NCAA tournament in eight seasons during a nine-year time span, including five number 1 seeds and three appearances in the Frozen Four. The team's main rivalries are with the University of Wisconsin and the University of North Dakota, although several other schools claim Minnesota as their archrival. For much of the team's history, there has been a strong emphasis on recruiting native Minnesotan high school and junior hockey players, as opposed to out-of-state, Canadian, or European players. This helped high school ice hockey grow in Minnesota, particularly starting with Hall of Famer John Mariucci, who refused to recruit players from Canada. Minnesota high school ice hockey programs grew from 26 in 1945 to over 150 in 1980. Head coach Doug Woog championed home-grown talent even more, only recruiting Minnesota players in the late 1980s and 1990s, but recent rosters have been more diversified.
Robert Giles Motzko is the head coach of the University of Minnesota men's hockey team in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he had previously served as Assistant Coach in 2001–05. He was previously the head coach of the St. Cloud State Huskies from 2005 to 2018. During his time at SCSU, he was named the WCHA Coach of the Year in 2006 and again in 2007. In 2014 he was named the inaugural NCHC Herb Brooks Coach of the Year. In 2018 he won the Herb Brooks Coach of the Year for the second time. He guided the Huskies to six WCHA Final Five appearances, three NCHC Frozen Faceoff appearances, eight NCAA Division I tournament appearances, and one NCAA Division I Frozen Four appearance in 2013.
Derek James Peltier, is an American former professional ice hockey Defenseman. He most notably played in the National Hockey League with the Colorado Avalanche before finishing his professional career with German club Iserlohn Roosters of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL).
The Minnesota Golden Gophers women's ice hockey team plays for the University of Minnesota at the Twin Cities campus in Minneapolis. The team is one of the members of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) and competes in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) in Division I. The Golden Gophers have won six NCAA Championships as well as the final American Women's College Hockey Alliance Championship. In the WCHA, they have also been regular season champions 11 times and tournament champions 7 times. In addition to their overall success as a competitive team, the Gophers have also been ranked in the nation's top two teams for attendance since becoming a varsity sport, and the team holds the second largest single-game attendance record for women's collegiate hockey, drawing 6,854 fans for the first Minnesota women's hockey game on November 2, 1997. The team also holds the distinction of having the longest winning streak in women's or men's college hockey at 62 games from February 17, 2012 to November 17, 2013, winning back-to-back NCAA titles during the stretch.
Kent Patterson is an American former professional ice hockey goaltender. He was drafted by the Colorado Avalanche in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft and played in the American Hockey League (AHL) for the Lake Erie Monsters.
Seth Helgeson is an American professional ice hockey defenseman who is currently playing for the Bridgeport Islanders of the American Hockey League (AHL). Helgeson was selected by the New Jersey Devils in the 4th round of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
Mira Jalosuo is a Finnish ice hockey player, currently serving as an assistant coach for the Minnesota section of the Professional Women's Hockey Players Association (PWHPA) and as head coach of the girls' ice hockey team at Stillwater Area High School in Oak Park Heights, Minnesota. As a member of the Finnish national team, she won a bronze medal at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games and bronze medals at the IIHF World Women's Championships in 2008, 2009, 2011, 2015, and 2017.
The Wisconsin Badgers women's ice hockey program represented the University of Wisconsin during the 2013–14 NCAA Division I women's ice hockey season. Goaltender Alex Rigsby graduated as the program’s all-time leader in wins with 100, minutes played with 7,881:09 and saves with 3,126. Of note, her .941 save percentage is tied for first in program history. A 3-1 victory over Bemidji State helped Rigsby surpass Jessie Vetter for the Badgers mark in career wins. In the postseason, the Badgers were defeated 1-0 in the WCHA Final Face-off against the North Dakota Fighting Sioux. Despite the loss, the Badgers would qualify for the NCAA tournament, their seventh in program history. In the quarterfinals, the Badgers defeated Harvard by a 2-1 mark at LaBahn Arena. Advancing to the Frozen Four in Hamden, Connecticut, the Lakers were bested by WCHA rival Minnesota in a 5-3 loss on March 21.
The Minnesota Golden Gophers women's ice hockey program represented the University of Minnesota during the 2013–14 NCAA Division I women's ice hockey season. Their senior class featured Bethany Brausen, Sarah Davis, Baylee Gillanders and Kelly Terry, compiling a record of 139-17-5. Hannah Brandt, Rachel Bona and Sarah Davis would each reach the 100 point career mark. The Golden Gophers logged the best attendance in NCAA women’s hockey with 84,672 fans while setting an NCAA women’s hockey record with a power play of 32.7 percent. In addition, the Golden Gophers would qualify for the NCAA tournament for the tenth time in program history. In the postseason, the Golden Gophers were defeated 2-1 in overtime by the RIT Tigers during the WCHA championship tournament. In the quarterfinals, the Golden Gophers defeated Cornell by a 3–2 mark on home ice. Advancing to the Frozen Four championship game in Hamden, Connecticut, the Golden Gophers were bested by the Clarkson Golden Knights.
Mike Guentzel is an American ice hockey coach and former defenceman. He currently works as a pro scout for the Arizona Coyotes.
The 1964–65 Michigan Tech Huskies men's ice hockey team represented Michigan Tech University in college ice hockey. In its 9th year under head coach John MacInnes the team compiled a 24–5–1 record and reached the NCAA tournament for the fourth time in its history. The Huskies defeated Boston College 8–2 in the championship game at the Meehan Auditorium in Providence, Rhode Island.
Taylor Matson is an American professional ice hockey player currently playing for HV71 in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL). He was drafted 176th overall by Vancouver Canucks in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. Prior to turning professional, Matson spent four years at the University of Minnesota and in the American Hockey League (AHL) and ECHL.
The 1978–79 Minnesota Golden Gophers men's ice hockey team represented the University of Minnesota in college ice hockey. In its 7th year under head coach Herb Brooks the team compiled a 32–11–1 record and reached the NCAA tournament for the eighth time. The Golden Gophers defeated North Dakota 4–3 in the championship game at the Olympia Stadium in Detroit, Michigan to win their third national championship.
The 1986–87 North Dakota Fighting Sioux men's ice hockey team represented the University of North Dakota in college ice hockey. In its 9th year under head coach John Gasparini the team compiled a 40–8–0 record and reached the NCAA tournament for the eleventh time. The Fighting Sioux defeated defending champion Michigan State 5–3 to win the championship game at the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Michigan.
Clint Joseph "C.J." Suess is an American professional ice hockey forward currently playing for San Jose Barracuda in the American Hockey League (AHL) as a prospect for the San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League (NHL). Prior to playing professionally, Suess played college hockey for the Minnesota State Mavericks at Minnesota State University, Mankato. At the time of his graduation, his 127 career points were tied for fifth on the school's career scoring list during the NCAA Division I era. He also represented Team USA in the 2013 World Junior A Challenge, helping them win a gold medal.
Dryden Dowd McKay is an American professional ice hockey goaltender for the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League. He is the son of Ross McKay, a goaltender who played one game in the National Hockey League for the Hartford Whalers in 1991. After posting a shutout in a 1–0 win over St. Cloud State on October 8, 2021, McKay tied the record for career shutouts in NCAA DI men's hockey history with 26 career shutouts. He later won the 2022 Hobey Baker Award as the best NCAA men's ice hockey player.
