The LaSalle Speedway (formerly known as the Tri-City Speedway) is a 1/4 mile dirt track racing speedway founded in 1947 and located in LaSalle, Illinois. The speedway closed in 2019 in the middle of the racing season. [1] The track has reopened for sporadic events in 2021.

History

In 1947, the LaSalle Speedway was founded as the Tri-City Speedway. [2] It closed after only six races due to low interest. For two years, a cow milking center operated in the spot. Starting in 1951, a Drive-in theater operated at the site. The final showing was Herbie Rides Again on November 13, 1973.

In December 1991, word spread of another dirt track speedway at exactly the same site as the original. It was to be called the LaSalle Speedway and built by Izzo Construction, Inc., a local construction owned by Tony Izzo, the man who bought the land. LaSalle Speedway opened in summer 1992. Seating was expanded years later.

In May 2019, it was announced via LaSalle Speedway's social media that the track had ceased operations. [3] Being that it was in the middle of the racing season, all the scheduled events were cancelled. [4] In October 2019, the speedway, including four homes on the property, went up for sale with an asking price of $2 million. [5]

The LaSalle Speedway now focuses as running special events such as the Thaw Brawl to kick off the year, Lucas Oil Dirt Late Model event in the spring, hosts the UMP SummerNationals in July, IMCA One Night Stand in August, and also hosts the Bill Waite Jr. Memorial IRA Sprint Car special late in the fall.

Event History

The LaSalle Speedway has hosted great touring organizations including the World of Outlaw Sprint Car Series, AMA, ARCA Truck Series, and several Dirt Late Model events such as UMP, Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series, and the World of Outlaws Late Model Series. The past 2 years the LaSalle Speedway has also been host to the IMCA One Night Stand where IMCA sanctioned drivers can try their hand at the famed LaSalle Speedway.

Toby Keith, Sawyer Brown, and Trick Pony have each made the speedway a temporary music venue. NASCAR star Kasey Kahne raced a 20 lap race against amateur racers in 2010.

Williams Grove Speedway Racetrack

Williams Grove Speedway is a half-mile automobile dirt racing track located in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, USA. The speedway opened on May 21, 1939, it has been owned by the Hughes family for over 50 years and has hosted many of the most notable national touring series and some of those most prestigious races in the country. The speedway is entering its 81st year of operation, with racing every Friday from March to October and other special events. One of these special events is the $75,000 to win National Open for sprint cars sanctioned by the World of Outlaws racing series held in late September or early October each year.

United Midwestern Promoters Short track motor racing sanctioning body

United Midwestern Promoters (UMP) is a short track motor racing sanctioning body in the United States that sanctions short track racing on dirt race tracks from 1/5 mile (0.3 km) in length to 1-mile (1.6 km) in length. UMP currently sanctions eight different racing divisions on over 100 tracks in 19 states and one province in Canada. UMP was created in 1984 by Bob Memmer.

Selinsgrove Speedway

Selinsgrove Speedway is a half-mile (0.8 km) dirt racetrack located in Penn Township, Snyder County just south of Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania in the United States. It hosts Road-Runner, Pro Stock, Late Model, and Sprint Car racing every Saturday night. The track held an event in the 2020 Pennsylvania Speedweek for 410 Sprint cars. It also hosts Go-kart and Micro Sprint races every Friday night on its in-field track, the one-fifth mile (0.3 km) Selinsgrove Raceway Park.

Lernerville Speedway

Lernerville Speedway is a 4/10 mile dirt oval automobile race track located in Sarver, Pennsylvania, United States. It is currently owned by Tomson Scrap Metal. Lernerville currently hosts World of Outlaws Sprintcar Series and World of Outlaws Late Model Series events, as well as the All Star Circuit of Champions sprint car series. 2019 will mark the 52nd season for the track. The track features the "Fab 4" divisions weekly on Fridays from mid April through August. These divisions include the "Big Three"- 410 Sprints, Super Late Models, and Big Block Modifieds, and is the only track in the country to run all three on a weekly basis.

Lincoln Speedway, located in Lincoln, Illinois on the Logan County Fairgrounds, is a 1/4 mile dirt race track that opened in 2004. Lincoln Speedway races on Friday nights. After running races sanctioning by the United Midwestern Promoters (UMP), it switched to DIRTcar sanction.

Macon Speedway

The Herald & Review 100 is a United Midwestern Promoters Late model auto race that is held annually at Macon Speedway, in Macon, Illinois.

Cedar Lake Speedway is a 3/8 mile dirt clay oval race track located near New Richmond / Somerset, Wisconsin. Named after the nearby Cedar Lake, it hosts a weekly NASCAR racing program consisting of Late Models, Modifieds, Super Stocks, and Midwest Modifieds. The Belleville High Banks is a half mile dirt racing oval near Belleville, Kansas at the North Central Kansas Fairgrounds. The first recorded race happened at the track in 1910. It has held races on American Automobile Association (AAA), United States Auto Club (USAC), World of Outlaws Late Model Series and World of Outlaws Sprint cars circuits. The Belleville Midget Nationals and 305 Sprint Nationals races have been held at the track.
