    Tania Lozano and Víctor F. Clares, originally from Moncada y Reixach, friends since childhood and journalists by training, decided in 2017 to create a musical duo, initially as a joke. [1] Their style has influences of electropop, Catalan rumba and other influences from the Barcelona periphery, in what has been dubbed as "charnego pride.     The Catalan European Democratic Party, initially branded as the Catalan Democratic Party, is a liberal political party in Spain that supports Catalan independence. The party was founded in Barcelona on 10 July 2016. PDeCAT is regarded as the successor party to Democratic Convergence of Catalonia (CDC), which for most its history was a constituent party of the Convergence and Union (CiU) political formation.

    An independence referendum was held on 1 October 2017 in the Spanish autonomous community of Catalonia, passed by the Parliament of Catalonia as the Law on the Referendum on Self-determination of Catalonia and called by the Generalitat de Catalunya. The referendum, known in the Spanish media by the numeronym 1-O, was declared unconstitutional on 7 September 2017 and suspended by the Constitutional Court of Spain after a request from the Spanish government, who declared it a breach of the Spanish Constitution. Additionally, in early September the High Court of Justice of Catalonia had issued orders to the police to try to prevent it, including the detention of various persons responsible for its preparation. Due to alleged irregularities during the voting process as well as to the use of force by the National Police Corps and Civil Guard, international observers invited by the Generalitat declared that the referendum failed to meet the minimum international standards for elections.

    Catalunya en Comú, previously Un País en Comú and collectively dubbed as Comuns, is a Catalan-based political party established in December 2016 as an umbrella for Barcelona en Comú, Initiative for Catalonia Greens (ICV), United and Alternative Left (EUiA), Podemos and Equo, which until then had been collaborating through electoral alliances under the Catalunya Sí que es Pot and En Comú Podem labels in the September 2015 regional and December 2015 and June 2016 general elections.

    Alba Farelo i Solé, known professionally as Bad Gyal, is a Spanish singer, songwriter, DJ and model. Known for her distinctive overall use of Auto-Tune, Bad Gyal has developed a strong cult following ever since her musical career began in 2016 with her interpretation of Rihanna's "Work" in the Catalan language. She then continued to make music as an independent artist, releasing records like "Indapanden", "Jacaranda" or "Fiebre". Bad Gyal later released two mixtapes: Slow Wine Mixtape (2016) and Worldwide Angel (2018), which consecrated her as an emerging artist within the Spanish urban scene.

    The Operation Anubis was a police operation in Catalonia, Spain, initiated on 20 September 2017 by the Civil Guard following orders of the trial court number 13 of Barcelona, directed by judge Juan Antonio Ramírez Sunyer. Its aim was to dismantle the framework of the Catalan independence referendum of 1 October 2017, that was suspended on 6 September 2017 by the Constitutional Court of Spain as breaching the 1978 Constitution. Different headquarters of the Generalitat de Catalunya were searched and 14 people were arrested, including high ranking administrative staff, and company CEO's involved in the preparation of the referendum. Simultaneously, several printing and media companies were searched looking for ballot papers and boxes. More than 140 websites were shut down by the Spanish justice and police.

    <span class="mw-page-title-main">Catalunya en Comú–Podem</span> Political party in Spain

    Catalunya en Comú–Podem, alternatively spelled out as Catalunya–En Comú Podem, was a left-wing and self-governance electoral and parliamentary alliance in Catalonia formed by Catalunya en Comú and Podem ahead of the 2017 Catalan regional election. It was the successor of the 2015 Catalunya Sí que es Pot alliance, and its leading candidate was Xavier Domènech.

    Somatemps is a collective in Catalonia generally considered to be aligned with the far-right of Spain and also of being Spanish nationalist. They state to be committed to defend what they call "the hispanic identity of Catalonia". It was founded between 2011 and November 16, 2013 in Santpedor (Bages), where one of its founders, Josep Ramon Bosch, resides. The organisation is led by Javier Barraycoa. Currently Somatemps has around 300 members. The name of Somatemps was intended as word-play between "Som a temps"—"we are in time" —and the medieval Catalan militias Sometent. Somatemps has contributed to the creation of the association Catalan Civil Society.

    Javier Barraycoa is a philosopher and Spanish writer, associate professor in Abat Oliva CEU University. He has been secretary of the political party Comunión Tradicionalista Carlista in Catalonia and collaborates with La Gaceta. He is the current president and also founder of Somatemps. He states that is also a founder of Catalan Civil Society but the organisation negates it. However, Somatemps published in their blog a photograph of him being in a SCC meeting planning their political agenda while stating they gave the initial support to the entity.

    <span class="mw-page-title-main">National Call for the Republic</span> Political party in Spain

    The National Call for the Republic is a pro-independence, big tent political party in Catalonia. It aimed at uniting pro-independence political parties and organisations throughout Catalonia towards the common goal of establishing a Catalan Republic, regardless of political ideology. Its members included both independent figures from the civil society and aligned to the Together for Catalonia (JxCat) alliance—such as Quim Torra or Jordi Sànchez—as well as prominent members of the Catalan European Democratic Party (PDeCAT), among others: former Catalan president Carles Puigdemont, former regional ministers Josep Rull, Jordi Turull and Laura Borràs or party vice-president Míriam Nogueras.

    The Nationalist Party of Catalonia is a Catalan nationalist and liberal political party in Catalonia. The party was established on 12 May 2020 by former Catalan European Democratic Party (PDeCAT) coordinator-general Marta Pascal. It held its founding congress on 27 June 2020, under a political manifesto in which they announce their commitment to an agreed referendum as the solution for the issue of Catalan independence.

    The 2023 Barcelona City Council election, also the 2023 Barcelona municipal election, will be held on Sunday, 28 May 2023, to elect the 12th City Council of the municipality of Barcelona. All 41 seats in the City Council will be up for election. The election will be held simultaneously with regional elections in at least eight autonomous communities and local elections all throughout Spain.

    Centrem is a Catalan nationalist centre-right political party in Catalonia, announced on 11 January 2022 by former Catalan European Democratic Party (PDeCAT) secretary-general Àngels Chacón, in an attempt to unify the parties in the political space left by the dissolution of Convergence and Union (CiU), and the ascendence of Catalan President Carles Puigdemont on the Together for Catalonia party founded in July 2020, which emerged from an homonymous 2017 electoral alliance. The party is supported by Chacón's former party, the PDeCAT, as well as Convergents (CNV), Democratic League (LD) and Free (Lliures), and has announced that it will contest the 2023 Spanish local elections in Catalonia. The Nationalist Party of Catalonia (PNC) of former PDeCAT coordinator-general Marta Pascal has openly rejected joining the Centrem platform.
