Eastern Illinois University is a public university in Charleston, Illinois. Established in 1895 as the Eastern Illinois State Normal School, a teacher's college offering a two-year degree, Eastern Illinois University gradually expanded into a comprehensive university with a broad curriculum, including bachelor's and master's degrees in education, business, arts, sciences, and humanities.
Debbie Black is a women's basketball former player and current coach. During her professional career, Black played for the Women's National Basketball League in Australia, the American Basketball League and the Women's National Basketball Association. She retired from the Connecticut Sun of the WNBA in 2005. Black was an assistant coach for the Ohio State University before being named the head coach of the Eastern Illinois University Women's Basketball team on May 16, 2013, in which position she continued until 2017.
The Eastern Illinois Panthers are the intercollegiate athletic programs of Eastern Illinois University (EIU) located in Charleston, Illinois, United States. The Panthers athletic program is a member of the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) and competes at the NCAA Division I level in the Football Championship Subdivision. EIU's colors are blue and gray. Selected as the team mascot in 1930, EIU's panther was informally known as "Billy" for many years and was officially named "Billy the Panther" in 2008. Panther teams have won five NCAA national championships in three sports. The Panthers also won the 1969 NAIA men's soccer title.
Charles Phillip Lantz was an American football, basketball, baseball coach and college athletics administrator. He was the sixth head football coach at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Illinois, serving 24 seasons, from 1911 to 1935 and again in 1944, compiling a record of 95–66–13. In 1967, the Lantz Arena complex was opened and named in his honor.

Matthew Mark Bollant is the head coach for the Eastern Illinois Panthers women's basketball team. Previously, he served as the head women's basketball coach at the University of Illinois, and before that, he served as head coach of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Phoenix women's basketball team. In 2011, he led the Phoenix to its first Sweet Sixteen appearance. He came to the Phoenix after serving as the head coach at Bryan College for five seasons and as an assistant coach at Indiana and Evansville for two and one seasons, respectively.

Lee Buchanan is an American college basketball coach and the current women's head coach at LaGrange College. He is the former women's head coach at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Illinois. After leading his team to the Eastern Division title of the Ohio Valley Conference and an invitation to play in the WNIT in his first season at EIU, on April 15, 2003, Buchanan suddenly announced his resignation to "pursue other professional opportunities" and to spend more time with his family.
