The 8th Annual Latin American Music Awards was held on April 20, 2023, to recognize outstanding achievements for artists in the Latin music industry of 2022, voted by the public. [2]

Contents

The ceremony was place at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, United States, and was broadcast simultaneously on Univision, UniMás and Galavisión in the United States, and Canal 5 in México. [3] [4] This marks the first time in the history of the awards that the ceremony was broadcast on Univision instead of Telemundo, this was the result of TelevisaUnivision acquiring rights to the ceremony from Dick Clark Productions in September 2022. It was hosted by Argentine-Puerto Rican actor Julián Gil, Mexican presenter Galilea Montijo, Dominican actor and model Clarissa Molina and Dominican singer Natti Natasha. [5]

The nominations were announced on March 13, 2023, with Puerto Rican singer Bad Bunny leading the nominations with eleven, followed by Becky G and Daddy Yankee with nine each. [5] New categories were introduced such as Best Streaming Artist of the Year as well as four new collaboration categories: Collaboration Crossover of the Year, Best Collaboration – Pop/Urban, Best Collaboration – Regional Mexican and Best Collaboration – Tropical.

Colombian singer and songwriter Carlos Vives was honored with the Legacy Award, while Spanish singer and songwriter David Bisbal and American singer Prince Royce were both recognized with the Pioneer Award. [6]

Regional Mexican music refers collectively to the regional subgenres of the country music of Mexico and its derivatives from the Southwestern United States. Each subgenre is representative of a certain region and its popularity varies by region. Subgenres include banda, duranguense, grupero, mariachi, New Mexico music, Norteño, Sierreño, Tejano, and Tierra Caliente. The 25th Lo Nuestro Awards ceremony, presented by the American network Univision, honored the best Latin music of 2012 in the United States and took place on February 21, 2013, at the American Airlines Arena in Miami, Florida beginning at 5:00 p.m. PST / 8:00 p.m. EST. During the ceremony, Lo Nuestro Awards were presented in 33 categories. The ceremony, televised in the United States by Univision, was produced by Antonio Guzmán. Mexican performers Ninel Conde and Pedro Fernández hosted the show.

The 26th Lo Nuestro Awards were presented by the American network Univision, honoring the best Latin music of 2013 in the United States. The ceremony took place on February 20, 2014, at the American Airlines Arena in Miami, Florida beginning at 5:00 p.m. PST. The Lo Nuestro Awards were presented in 33 categories and it was televised by Univision. Mexican singer Ninel Conde and Cuban American actor William Levy hosted the show.

The Latin American Music Awards is an annual American music awards show produced by TelevisaUnivision. It is the Spanish-language counterpart of the American Music Awards (AMAs). As with AMAs, the Latin AMAs are determined by a poll of the public and music buyers and is produced by SOMOS Productions. The first Latin AMAs debuted on October 8, 2015, on Telemundo and was hosted by Lucero. The awards were not held in 2020 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, they resumed a year later.

Emmanuel Gazmey Santiago, known professionally as Anuel AA, is a Puerto Rican rapper and singer. His music often contains samples and interpolations of songs that were popular during his youth. He is seen as a controversial figure in the Latin music scene for his legal troubles and feuds with fellow Puerto Rican rappers Cosculluela, Ivy Queen and Arcángel as well as American rapper 6ix9ine. Raised in Carolina, Puerto Rico, he started recording music at age fourteen and began posting it online four years later in 2010, before eventually signing to the Latin division of fellow American rapper Rick Ross's Maybach Music Group. His 2016 mixtape Real Hasta la Muerte was well-received, but his success was put on hold the same year by a 30-month prison sentence for illegal firearm possession in Puerto Rico. He recorded the entirety of his debut album while incarcerated, during which time his genre of music surged in popularity.

Ángela Aguilar Álvarez Alcalá is a Mexican and American singer. She was born in Los Angeles while her mother was accompanying her father, Pepe Aguilar, on tour. Aguilar gained notable recognition after performing "La Llorona" at the 19th Annual Latin Grammy Awards in 2018. Her paternal grandparents are the actors and singers from the Golden Age of Mexican cinema, Antonio Aguilar and Flor Silvestre.

Eslabon Armado is an American regional Mexican group from Patterson, California formed in 2017. The group consists of Pedro Tovar, Brian Tovar (bass), Damian Pacheco, and Ulises González.

Gonzalo Julián Conde, known professionally as Bizarrap, is an Argentine record producer, songwriter and DJ. He specializes in EDM, Latin trap and Latin hip hop. He is known for his Bzrp Music Sessions, a series of independent tracks which he records with a wide variety of artists. He was nominated for a Latin Grammy Award for Producer of the Year in 2021 and 2023.

Natanael Ruben Cano Monge is a Mexican rapper, musician and singer. Natanael is known for his fusion of trap music and regional Mexican corridos, known as corridos tumbados. The idea to fuse the two genres was proposed by Dan Sanchez who wrote Natanael's first corrido tumbado, "Soy el Diablo".

Grupo Frontera is an American regional Mexican band from Edinburg, Texas. The band consists of Adelaido "Payo" Solís III, Juan Javier Cantú, Julian Peña Jr. (congas), Alberto "Beto" Acosta, Carlos Guerrero (drums), and Carlos Zamora.

The 35th Lo Nuestro Awards were held at the Dade Arena in Miami on February 23, 2023, to recognize the most popular Spanish-language music of 2022. The ceremony was broadcast on Univisión and was hosted by television presenters Alejandra Espinoza and Adrián Uribe and singers Sebastián Yatra and Paulina Rubio.
