Leslie Jean Deniz (born May 25, 1962) is an American athlete who competed mainly in the women's discus throw event.

Deniz was born in Oakland, California, and grew up in Gridley, California, where she attended area schools, graduating from Gridley High School in 1980. While there she twice improved the NFHS national high school record in the discus throw to 172' 11" which lasted for two years. [1] Deniz was adopted into a long time dairy farming family.

She competed for the United States in the 1984 Summer Olympics held in Los Angeles, U.S. in the Discus where she won the Silver medal. Leslie attended Arizona State University in Tempe after graduating from Gridley High School in 1980. Her teammate at ASU, Ria Stalman, won the 1984 Olympic gold medal in a tight competition.

Deniz completed her BA and MA and worked as a police officer and administrator with the Yuba City Police Department.

Deniz worked four years as the chief of police at California State University, Chico until late September 2006. [2]

Deniz continues her committed work in law enforcement.

She is currently a professor of criminal justice studies at Woodland Community College.

Ramona Pagel is a retired American shot putter. She made four consecutive Olympic teams, 1984-1996, four IAAF World Championships and won a full set of medals in three showings at the Pan American Games. Her personal best put was 20.18 metres, achieved in June 1988 in San Diego. That mark was the American record for 25 years. The record was tied 23 years later by Jillian Camarena-Williams in 2011 and was finally beaten by Michelle Carter at the 2013 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Two days before her record was beaten, Stamatia Scarvelis, coached by Pagel, won the Junior National Championship at the same meet.

Margaret "Meg" Elizabeth Stone is a retired Scottish discus thrower and Shot putter. She reached the Olympic finals at discus in Moscow 1980 (9th) and Los Angeles 1984 (5th). She also won the 1982 Commonwealth Games title. Her discus best of 67.48 metres has stood as the British record since 1981, while her shot put best of 18.99 metres has stood as the Scottish record since 1983.

The CIF California State Meet is the annual championship track and field meet for the California Interscholastic Federation. The meet was started in 1915 for boys and 1974 for girls. Every athlete in every high school in California has a direct qualification path that can reach the state meet.
