Jim Gimbel, played by John Atkinson, first appears on 25 November 1974. Prior to his onscreen debut, he is mentioned by Amos Brearly (Ronald Magill) and Sam Pearson (Toke Townley). In October 1974, after Joe Sugden (Frazer Hines) and his wife Christine (Angela Cheyne) separate after six weeks of marriage, Joe begins dating Jim's daughter, Kathy (Polly Hemingway), which Jim disapproves of. Jim throws his son Martin (George Fenton) out after an argument with him, but later allows back home. Jim feels he was being patronised by his son about how to do farming. Jim and his wife Freda (Mary Henry) go to visit Jim's sister. Offscreen, Jim becomes increasingly violent. He starts physically abusing his children, and when he raises his hand to Freda, Freda leaves Jim. A depressed Jim then shoots himself.

Norman Gimbel was an American lyricist and songwriter of popular songs and themes to television shows and films. He wrote the lyrics for songs including "Ready to Take a Chance Again" and "Canadian Sunset". He also co-wrote "Killing Me Softly With His Song". He wrote English-language lyrics for many international hits, including "Sway", "Summer Samba", "The Girl from Ipanema", "How Insensitive", "Drinking-Water", "Meditation", "I Will Wait for You" and "Watch What Happens". Of the movie themes he co-wrote, five were nominated for Academy Awards and/or Golden Globe Awards, including "It Goes Like It Goes", from the film Norma Rae, which won the Academy Award for Best Original Song for 1979. Gimbel was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1984.
Prem Nath Malhotra, better known as Prem Nath, was an Indian actor and director, who was best known for his works in Hindi films. Nath made his debut with the film Ajit (1948), and went on to appear in over 100 films throughout his career. He was nominated for three Filmfare Awards, and later retired in 1985.
Joseph "Joe" Sugden is a fictional character from the British television soap opera Emmerdale, played by Frazer Hines. He first appeared on-screen during the soap's first episode broadcast 16 October 1972 and remained in the programme until 1983. After a brief return in the following year, Hines reprised his role on a permanent basis in 1986, a landmark year for the show under Richard Handford. He made his last appearance in August 1994, and subsequently died off-screen the following year. In 2019, Hines confirmed that he would like to return to the soap despite his off-screen death.

Duke Ellington's "Blue Piano" makes its first album appearance, while the majority of the songs on this album are cover songs and jazz standards. The six songs on the first side of the album were recorded on September 17 and 18 of 1963, while the second side was recorded on September 19 of that year. This album was reissued on CD in Japan in January 2002 and then on September 13, 2005 in the United States.
Roger Gimbel was an American television producer who specialized in television movies. Many of Gimbel's television films dealt with real-life events, including Chernobyl: The Final Warning, S.O.S. Titanic, The Amazing Howard Hughes, and The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman. Often, Gimbel's films also focused on serious societal problems, including mental illness, war, and domestic abuse. Gimbel produced more than 50 television films and specials, which earned eighteen Emmy Awards.
