An expansion draft, in professional sports, occurs when a sports league decides to create one or more new expansion teams or franchises. This occurs mainly in North American sports and closed leagues. One of the ways of stocking the new team or teams is an expansion draft. Although how each league conducts them varies, and they vary from occasion to occasion, the system is usually something similar to the following:
George Edward Pope is an American former soccer player who last played for Real Salt Lake of Major League Soccer and spent eleven years as a defender for the United States national team. He spent most of his career playing for D.C. United. Pope is a member of the National Soccer Hall of Fame.
Shalrie Jamal Joseph is a Grenadian former professional footballer and coach.

Alejandro Enrique Moreno Riera is a Venezuelan former professional footballer who played as a forward, and who is a television commentator for ESPN FC, ESPN Deportes and ESPN Latin America. Moreno won three MLS Cups during his professional career. Moreno was chosen in 2021 to work as a commentator in the 2020 European Championship.
Shavar Thomas is a retired Jamaican footballer and current assistant coach of FC Cincinnati 2 of MLS Next Pro.
Ramiro Corrales is an American former professional soccer player who is currently a technical advisor and assistant coach for USL Championship expansion side Monterey Bay FC. He spent most of his professional career with the San Jose Earthquakes in Major League Soccer.

Robert Allen "Bobby" Boswell is an American retired soccer player. He played his entire professional career in Major League Soccer, mostly with the Houston Dynamo and D.C. United. He retired in 2017 with over 360 appearances in MLS. His best season was in 2006, when he won the MLS Defender of the Year award.
Nathan Radford Sturgis is an American former soccer player who last played for Seattle Sounders FC in Major League Soccer.
Richard Mulrooney is an American former soccer player. He is the current men's soccer coach at the University of Memphis.
Tyson Wahl is an American retired soccer player.
Jeffrey Adam Larentowicz is an American former soccer player. He was a starting midfielder on the Colorado Rapids' 2010 MLS Cup Championship team, and a starting defender for Atlanta United's 2018 Cup-winning side.
Marc Burch is an American soccer player.
