  1. Only muzzle-loading pistols of .45 caliber (30 shots in 5 series of 6 shots each). The 25 metre military pistol, which was won using a Colt revolver, was a separate event.
  2. 20 metre military pistol event for professionals (6 shots in 1 series of 6 shots); prize money awarded [1]
  3. The individual competition with revolver and pistol (duel shooting) at 30 metres distance (30 shots in 6 series of 5 shots each)
  4. In 1920 there was a 30 metre military pistol event (30 shots in 5 series of 6 shots each) in which Brazilian shooters used Smith & Wesson revolvers with adjustable sights, while American shooters used either the Colt Army Special or the Smith & Wesson Military with fixed sights. [2] The International Shooting Sport Federation regards this as the next progression of the 25 metre rapid fire pistol event in 1920. [3]

Rifle three positions

This event has also been known as small-bore rifle three positions and free rifle three positions.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Shooting sports</span> Sports involving firearms used to hit targets

Shooting sports is a group of competitive and recreational sporting activities involving proficiency tests of accuracy, precision and speed in shooting — the art of using ranged weapons, mainly small arms and bows/crossbows.

Ioannis Theofilakis (Theophilakis) (Greek: Ιωάννης Θεοφιλάκης, 1879–1968) was a Greek sport shooter who competed at five Olympic games, and the 1906 Intercalated Games. He competed at the 1896 Summer Olympics in Athens. He also competed at the 1908 Summer Olympics, the 1912 Summer Olympics, the 1920 Summer Olympics where he won silver, and at the 1924 Summer Olympics.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Shooting at the Summer Olympics</span>

Shooting sports have been included at every Summer Olympic Games since the birth of the modern Olympic movement at the 1896 Summer Olympics except at the 1904 and 1928 games.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">ISSF 50 meter pistol</span> Sport shooting event

50 meter pistol, formerly and unofficially still often called Free Pistol, is one of the ISSF shooting events. It is one of the oldest shooting disciplines, dating back to the 19th century and only having seen marginal rule changes since 1936. It is considered to provide some of the purest precision shooting among the pistol events. The target of this event has not changed since 1900, and the 50m distance has remained the standard since 1912. The sport traced back to the beginning of indoor Flobert pistol parlour shooting in Europe during the 1870s.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">ISSF World Shooting Championships</span> World championship in shooting

The ISSF World Shooting Championships are governed by the International Shooting Sport Federation. World Shooting Championships began in 1897, after the successful 1896 Summer Olympics, and although the ISSF was not founded until 1907, these early competitions are still seen by the organization as the beginning of a continuous row of championships. By this logic, the 2006 competition in Zagreb was called the 49th ISSF World Shooting Championships. These championships, including all ISSF shooting events, are held every four years since 1954. For the shotgun events only, there is an additional World Championship competition in odd-numbered years. These extra competitions are not numbered. In running target, there will be World Championships in Olympic years.

The shooting competitions at the 1992 Summer Olympics took place at a shooting range complex in Mollet del Vallès outside Barcelona, Spain. Competitions were held in a total of thirteen events — seven men's events, four women's events, and two events open to both genders. It was the first time a woman took a gold medal in such an open event, and also the last time they were held.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Sweden at the Olympics</span> Sporting event delegation

Sweden first participated at the Olympic Games at the inaugural 1896 Games, and has sent athletes to compete in every Games since then with one exception, the sparsely attended 1904 Summer Olympics. Sweden has earned medals at all Olympic games except for two, the 1896 Games and the 1904 Games. The only other nation having earned medals at every Olympic game since 1908 is Sweden's neighboring country Finland.

The men's 30 metre individual competition with free revolver was one of the five sport shooting events on the 1896 Summer Olympics shooting program. Six competitors entered the pistol event on 11 April. Having won the 25 metre military pistol event, John Paine then withdrew from the 30 metre free pistol event, citing his desire to not embarrass his Greek hosts. He also said he had an agreement with his brother that whoever won the first event between them would drop out the next event. The competitors each shot five strings of six shots. Sumner Paine won the event.

The men's individual revolver and pistol competition was one of 15 shooting sports events on the shooting at the 1908 Summer Olympics programme. The competition was held on Friday, 10 July 1908. Each nation could enter up to 12 shooters. Forty-three sport shooters from seven nations competed. Nations were limited to 12 shooters each. The event was won by Paul Van Asbroeck of Belgium, with his countryman Réginald Storms taking silver. They were the first medals for Belgian shooters in the free pistol. American James Gorman finished with the bronze medal after an unsuccessful protest, claiming he had put one bullet through a previous hole.

The men's individual competition with revolver and pistol, distance 50 metres was a shooting sports event held as part of the shooting at the 1912 Summer Olympics programme. It was the fourth appearance of the event, which was the only one to have been featured at every edition of the Games to that point. The competition was held on Monday, 1 July 1912. Fifty-four sport shooters from twelve nations competed. Nations were limited to 12 shooters each. The event was won by Alfred Lane of the United States, completing a double for him with the rapid fire pistol event. It was the United States' second victory in the event. Another American, Peter Dolfen, finished second. Charles Stewart of Great Britain took the bronze medal, the nation's first in the free pistol.

The competition was held on Saturday, 29 June 1912. Forty-two sport shooters from ten nations competed. Nations were limited to 12 shooters each.
