The 503rd Infantry Regiment, formerly the 503rd Parachute Infantry Regiment and the 503rd Airborne Infantry Regiment, is an airborne infantry regiment of the United States Army. The regiment served as an independent regiment in the Pacific War during World War II; at Fort Campbell, Kentucky; in Okinawa, Japan; and in Germany. Regimental elements have been assigned to the 2nd Infantry Division, the 11th Airborne Division, the 24th Infantry Division, 25th Infantry Division, the 82nd Airborne Division, 101st Airborne Division, and the 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team. Regimental elements have participated in campaigns in the Vietnam War, Operation Enduring Freedom–Afghanistan, and Operation Iraqi Freedom. The regiment claims 15 Medal of Honor recipients: two from World War II, ten from Vietnam, and three from Afghanistan. A parent regiment under the U.S. Army Regimental System. The regiment's 1st and 2nd Battalions are active, assigned to the 173rd Airborne Brigade, based at Caserma Ederle, Vicenza, Italy. The Vicenza Military Community is composed of soldiers, family members, civilians and retirees with a small number of airmen and sailors also stationed there. The post serves as the headquarters of United States Army Africa and the 173rd Airborne Brigade. Caserma Ederle serves as the headquarters of U.S. Army Garrison Italy of the United States Army Installation Management Command, an umbrella for all U.S. military properties in Vicenza. The post is named after Major Carlo Ederle, an Italian hero of World War I and recipient of the French Croix de Guerre, among other military honors.

Vicenza Airport, officially Vicenza “Tommaso Dal Molin” Airport, was an airport serving Vicenza, Province of Vicenza, Veneto, Italy. It was one of three airports in the Province of Vicenza, along with Asiago Airport and Thiene Airport. Classified as a city airport because it was only 3 kilometres (1.86 mi) northwest of the city center, it remained in operation from 1921 until 2008, when it was closed to all air traffic for the construction of a base for the United States military, the second such base in the Vicenza area. The runway was demolished in 2009, and as of 2016 a public park is being designed for the former airport grounds. The new U.S. Army Caserma Del Din opened on part of the former airport's grounds in 2013.
