The office of United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida came into being with the creation of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida in 1847, and continues to the present day.^[1]^[2]

The United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida is the federal United States district court with territorial jurisdiction over the southern part of the state of Florida.

The United States District Court for the Northern District of Florida is a federal court in the Eleventh Circuit.

More than 1,500 African American officeholders served during the Reconstruction era (1865–1877) and in the years after Reconstruction before white supremacy, disenfranchisement, and the Democratic Party fully reasserted control in Southern states.
