Lucy Helyn Deakins (born December 18, 1971) is an American attorney and former actress best known for starring as Milly in The Boy Who Could Fly and originating the role of Lily Walsh on As the World Turns . [1] [2]

Biography

Deakins was born in New York City, the daughter of Alice, a professor at Columbia University, and Roger, a professor at New York University. [3] She graduated from Stuyvesant High School and enrolled in Harvard University in 1988. She graduated in 1994 with a degree in comparative religion. She took time off from acting to backpack across Europe. [4]

In 2007, she graduated from University of Washington School of Law and is now a practicing attorney in Denver, Colorado, specializing in energy law, and then moving to family law and criminal defense. [5] [6] She is a partner in the Denver law firm, Dunsing, Deakins & Galera. [7]

Most notably played by Martha Byrne from May 1985 to September 29, 1989 and again from April 1993 to April 22, 2008, the character was originated in June 1984 by Lucy Deakins. Heather Rattray stepped into the role from December 24, 1989 to December 24, 1992. In the show's final two years, Lily was recast with Noelle Beck and she aired from May 8, 2008 after the much-publicized departure of Byrne until its final episode on September 17, 2010. Byrne is considered to be one of the most recognized faces of daytime television and is often called a "superstar" of soap opera history.

The role of Lily was first portrayed by actress Lucy Deakins from 1984 until her departure in 1985, when actress Martha Byrne joined the cast in 1985, which began the pairing of Lily with Holden opposite actor Jon Hensley. Byrne departed the role of Lily in 1989, and it was recast with actress Heather Rattray. In 1993, Rattray was let go from the series and Byrne returned to the role. In 2008, Byrne made her high-profiled exit from the series and the role was once again recast with Noelle Beck, who remained in the role until the series finale in September 2010. Hensley is the only actor to portray the role of Holden for the character's duration with the series.
