Luke Kennard (born 1981 [1] ) is a British poet, critic, novelist and lecturer.

He won an Eric Gregory Award in 2005 [2] for his first collection The Solex Brothers. [3] His second collection, The Harbour Beyond The Movie, was shortlisted for the 2007 Forward Prize for Best Collection, making him the youngest ever poet to be nominated. [4] In 2014 he was named as one of the Poetry Book Society's Next Generation Poets. [5] His debut novel, The Transition, was published by Fourth Estate in March 2017. [6] The novel was a BBC Radio 4 Book at Bedtime . [7] His poetry collection Notes on the Sonnets won the 2021 Forward Prize for Best Collection.

Forward Prizes for Poetry British poetry award(s)

The Forward Prizes for Poetry are major British awards for poetry, presented annually at a public ceremony in London. They were founded in 1992 by William Sieghart with the aim of celebrating excellence in poetry and increasing its audience. The prizes do this by identifying and honouring talent: collections published in the UK and Ireland over the course of the previous year are eligible, as are single poems nominated by journal editors or prize organisers. Each year, works shortlisted for the prizes – plus those highly commended by the judges – are collected in the Forward Book of Poetry.

Jacob Polley is a British poet and novelist. He has published four collections of poetry. His novel, Talk of the Town, won the Somerset Maugham Award in 2009. His latest poetry collection, Jackself, won the T.S. Eliot Prize in 2016. Polley has co-written two short films and collaborated on multimedia poetry installations in the United Kingdom.

Lavinia Elaine Greenlaw is an English poet, novelist and non-fiction writer. She won the Prix du Premier Roman with her first novel and her poetry has been shortlisted for awards that include the T. S. Eliot Prize, Forward Prize and Whitbread Poetry Prize. Her 2014 Costa Poetry Award was for A Double Sorrow: A Version of Troilus and Criseyde. Greenlaw currently holds the post of Professor of Creative Writing (Poetry) at Royal Holloway, University of London.

Natasha Trethewey American poet

Natasha Trethewey is an American poet who was appointed United States Poet Laureate in 2012 and again in 2013. She won the 2007 Pulitzer Prize in Poetry for her 2006 collection Native Guard, and she is a former Poet Laureate of Mississippi.

Jen Hadfield Scottish poet and artist

Jen Hadfield is a British poet and visual artist. She has published four poetry collections. Her first collection, Almanacs, won an Eric Gregory Award in 2003. Hadfield is the youngest female poet to be awarded the TS Eliot Prize, with her second collection, Nigh-No-Place, in 2008. Her fourth collection, The Stone Age, was selected as the Poetry Book Society choice for spring 2021 and won the Highland Book Prize, 2021.

Next Generation poets (2014) are a list of poets named in 2014 by a panel for the Poetry Book Society, which once every ten years selects 20 poets "expected to dominate the poetry landscape of the coming decade". The accolade highlights emerging poets in the UK and Ireland who published a first collection of poetry within the previous decade.

Hannah Lowe is a British writer, known for her collection of poetry Chick (2013) and family memoir Long Time, No See (2015) and her research into the historicising of the Empire Windrush and postwar Caribbean migration to Britain. Her 2021 book The Kids won the Costa Book of the Year award.

Mary Jean Chan is a Hong Kong Chinese poet, lecturer, editor and critic. Their first poetry collection, Flèche, won the 2019 Costa Book Award in the Poetry category. Chan is also a 2019 recipient of an Eric Gregory Award for a collection by poets under the age of 30. Chan is a Ledbury Poetry Critic and was guest co-editor of The Poetry Review for Spring 2020.
