History

Fairview Health Services

Fairview Health Services is a nonprofit, integrated health system based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It provides health care across the full spectrum of health care services. Fairview currently [ when? ] operates ten hospitals, including M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center, [2] forty eight primary care clinics and numerous specialty clinics in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area and greater Minnesota. Fairview has 32,000 employees and 2,400 affiliated providers.

In June 2010, Thomson Reuters identified Fairview Health Services as one of the top ten health care systems in the United States. [3] The University of Minnesota Medical Center in Minneapolis was also recently recognized by U.S. News & World Report as a top hospital in the United States for treatment in six different specialties. [4] In January 2011, HealthGrades listed Fairview Ridges in Burnsville and Fairview Southdale in Edina as "Distinguished Hospitals for Clinical Excellence," with each ranking in the top 5% of hospitals in the area. [5] In October 2016, James Hereford, former COO of Stanford Health Care, became CEO of Fairview. [6]

In May 2017, Fairview announced they were merging with HealthEast Care System which serves primarily St. Paul and the eastern suburbs of the Twin Cities. The combined Fairview/HealthEast has approximately 33,200 employees. [7]

Starting on January 1, 2019, M Health Fairview became a partnership and brand that represents the collaboration among three separate entities: the University of Minnesota Medical School, University of Minnesota Physicians, and Fairview Health Services. [8] [9]

As of November 8, 2019 M Health Fairview had about 34,000 employees. They have 10 hospitals and about 60 clinics with multiple services offered. [10] [11]

M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center (UMMC) previously known as University of Minnesota Medical Center, is an 1700-bed non-profit, tertiary, research and academic medical center located in Minneapolis, Minnesota, servicing the entire region. UMMC is the region's only university-level academic medical center. The hospital is operated by the M Health Fairview Health System and the second largest hospital in the system. UMMC is affiliated with the University of Minnesota Medical School. UMMC is also an ACS designated level II trauma center and has a rooftop helipad to handle medevac patients. Attached to the medical center is the Masonic Children's Hospital that treats infants, children, adolescents, and young adults up to the age of 21.

The University of Minnesota Medical School is the medical school of the University of Minnesota. It is a combination of two campuses situated in Minneapolis and Duluth, Minnesota. The University of Minnesota Medical School is also part of one of the largest Academic Health Centers (AHC) in the United States. This center allows health professionals to train collaboratively across interdisciplinary teams throughout the course of their training programs. The AHC comprises the Medical School, School of Dentistry, School of Nursing, College of Pharmacy, School of Public Health, and the College of Veterinary Medicine.

The hospital has 212 beds and is affiliated with University of Minnesota Medical School. The hospital provides comprehensive pediatric specialties and subspecialties to pediatric patients aged 0–21 throughout Minnesota and midwest United States. Masonic Children's Hospital is also a state designated Level III Trauma Center.

HealthEast Care System was a non-profit health care provider organization located in St. Paul, Minnesota and the surrounding suburban area. It included four hospitals, 14 clinics, medical transportation and a variety of other outpatient services. Founded in 1986, it was named one of the top ten health care systems in the United States by Thomson Reuters in 2009. In May 2017, it was approved for HealthEast Care System and the Minneapolis-based Fairview Health Services to merge. In October 2019, it officially became part of M Health Fairview.

St. Joseph's Hospital was a 253-bed hospital in downtown St. Paul, Minnesota. It was one of three tertiary hospitals located in St. Paul and the oldest hospital in Minnesota. It was part of M Health Fairview. Closed as a hospital in 2020, the building that once housed St. Joseph’s opened as Fairview’s “Center for Community Heath Equity”. Fairview announced the hospital would close by year's end in October 2022. All hospital patient care has moved to other locations.

Bethesda Hospital was currently a long-term acute care hospital located in St. Paul, Minnesota, United States. Previously a part of the HealthEast Care System, Bethesda Hospital is now a part of the M Health Fairview care system.

Rockcastle Regional Hospital and Respiratory Care Center is a not-for-profit acute and long-term care hospital located in Mt. Vernon, Kentucky. The facility primarily serves Rockcastle and surrounding counties with its 26-bed acute care facility, but receives referrals for its 143-bed ventilator facility nationwide It is an eleven-time winner of the Kentucky Hospital Association Quality Award and is accredited by the Joint Commission.

The Minneapolis Veterans Affairs Health Care System (VAHCS) is network of hospital and outpatient clinics based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA. It belongs to the VISN23 VA Midwest Health Care Network managed by the Veterans Health Administration of the Department of Veterans Affairs. The Minneapolis VAHCS provides healthcare for United States military veterans in areas such as medicine, surgery, psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation, neurology, oncology, dentistry, geriatrics and extended care. As a teaching hospital, it operates comprehensive training programs for multiple treatment specialties. The Minneapolis VAHCS also hosts one of the largest research programs of any VA health care system and maintains research affiliations with the University of Minnesota.

St. Mark's Hospital is a 317-bed short-term acute care hospital located in Millcreek, Utah, in the United States. St. Mark's has provided medical services to Salt Lake Valley since its founding in 1872.
