Marquesha Davis (born May 29, 2001) is an American professional basketball player for the New York Liberty of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). She played college basketball for the Arkansas Razorbacks and Ole Miss Rebels.

Early life

Davis was born on May 29, 2001, and grew up in the small town of McGehee, Arkansas. [1] She first played basketball in third grade and later was a standout performer at Springdale High School. [2] She had scored over 1,000 career points by her junior year at Springdale and was a multi-year selection to the all-state team. [3] [4] She committed to play college basketball for the Arkansas Razorbacks following her junior season. [4] She then averaged over 21 points and 10 rebounds per game as a senior and was named first-team All-USA Arkansas Girls Basketball. [5]

College career

Davis played three seasons at Arkansas and saw limited playing time, averaging 2.5 points in the 2019–20 season, 4.6 points in the 2020–21 season, and 5.9 points in the 2021–22 season. [5] She started a total of only one game in her tenure there. [6] After appearing in seven games, one as a starter, during the 2021–22 season, Davis entered the NCAA transfer portal and transferred to the Ole Miss Rebels in December 2021. [7]

Davis immediately saw significant playing time at Ole Miss, averaging 10.5 points and 4.8 rebounds for the team in the 2022–23 season while helping them reach the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament. [6] She then scored 14 points per game in 2023–24, including double figures in 25 games, and was named first-team All-Southeastern Conference while helping the Rebels reach their third-consecutive NCAA Tournament. [8] [9] She ended her Ole Miss career having started 59-of-67 games and scored over 1,000 points, with an average of 12.2 points per game. [8] [9]

Professional career

Davis was one of 15 players invited to attend the 2024 WNBA draft. [10] She was selected in the first round of the draft – 11th overall – by the New York Liberty. [11]

She competed with USA Basketball as a member of the 1995 Jones Cup Team that won the Bronze in Taipei. She was selected in the fourth round of the 1997 WNBA Draft at 27th overall by the New York Liberty. Over her WNBA career, she scored 442 points, grabbed 218 rebounds, and had 90 assists, and 111 steals.

The 2022–23 Ole Miss Rebels women's basketball team represented the University of Mississippi during the 2022–23 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The Rebels, led by fifth-year head coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin, played their home games at The Sandy and John Black Pavilion at Ole Miss and competed as members of the Southeastern Conference (SEC). They finished 25-9 and had near-upsets over LSU on the road and then-No. 1 South Carolina at home ; they earned the 4th seed in the SEC Tournament, losing to South Carolina in the semifinals by a score of 80-51. The Rebels were selected to the NCAA Tournament in the Seattle regional, defeating Gonzaga 71-48 in the first round. They then advanced to the second round where they had a big upset over 1-seed Stanford, winning 54-49 to advance to the Sweet Sixteen for just the second time in program history. Coincidentally Cleveland would host The Women's Final Four in 2024. They lost to Louisville 72-62 and finished the season ranked #22 in the Coaches Poll.

Esmery Martínez is a Dominican professional basketball player who is a free agent. She was drafted by the New York Liberty in the 2024 WNBA draft. She played college basketball at West Virginia and Arizona. She is also a member of the Dominican Republic women's national basketball team.

Taiyanna Jackson is an American professional basketball player who is a free agent. She played college basketball for the Trinity Valley Cardinals and Kansas Jayhawks and was selected by the Connecticut Sun in the second round of the 2024 WNBA draft.

Kaitlyn Davis is an American basketball player for the Rojas de Veracruz of the Liga Nacional de Baloncesto Profesional Femenil in Veracruz, Mexico. She played college basketball for Columbia University and the University of South California (USC).
