Martha Williams is an American attorney and government official who is the current director of the United States Fish and Wildlife Service. She previously served as the 24th director of the Montana Department of Fish,Wildlife and Parks from 2017 to 2020. [1]
Williams graduated from Garrison Forest School in Owings Mills,Maryland, [2] [3] then earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Virginia and a Juris Doctor from the Alexander Blewett III School of Law at the University of Montana. [4]
From 1998 to 2011,Williams served as legal counsel to the Montana Department of Fish,Wildlife and Parks. She has also served as deputy solicitor of the United States Fish and Wildlife Service. [5] Williams worked as associate professor of law at the University of Montana and co-director of the university's Land Use and Natural Resources Clinic. [6] [7]
Montana is a state in the Mountain West subregion of the Western United States. It is bordered by Idaho to the west;North Dakota and South Dakota to the east;Wyoming to the south;and by the Canadian provinces of Alberta,British Columbia,and Saskatchewan to the north. It is the fourth-largest state by area,the eighth-least populous state,and the third-least densely populated state. Its state capital is Helena. The western half of Montana contains numerous mountain ranges,while the eastern half is characterized by western prairie terrain and badlands,with smaller mountain ranges found throughout the state. In all,77 named ranges are part of the Rocky Mountains.

The Yellowstone River is a tributary of the Missouri River,approximately 692 miles (1,114 km) long,in the Western United States. Considered the principal tributary of upper Missouri,via its tributaries,it drains an area with headwaters across the mountains and high plains of southern Montana and northern Wyoming,and stretching east from the Rocky Mountains in the vicinity of Yellowstone National Park. It flows northeast to its confluence with the Missouri River on the North Dakota side of the border,about 25 miles west of present-day Williston.
The Charles M. Russell National Wildlife Refuge is a National Wildlife Refuge in the U.S. state of Montana on the Missouri River. The refuge surrounds Fort Peck Reservoir and is 915,814 acres (3,706.17 km2) in size. It is the second-largest National Wildlife Refuge in the lower 48 states of the United States,and the largest in Montana. Created in 1936,it was originally called the Fort Peck Game Range. It was renamed in 1963 after Montana artist Charles M. Russell,a famous painter of the American West. In 1976,the "range" was made a "refuge".
The United States Fish Commission,formally known as the United States Commission of Fish and Fisheries,was an agency of the United States government created in 1871 to investigate,promote,and preserve the fisheries of the United States. In 1903,it was reorganized as the United States Bureau of Fisheries,sometimes referred to as the United States Fisheries Service,which operated until 1940. In 1940,the Bureau of Fisheries was abolished when its personnel and facilities became part of the newly created Fish and Wildlife Service,under the United States Department of the Interior.
Wolf reintroduction involves the reintroduction of a portion of grey wolves in areas where native wolves have been extirpated. More than 30 subspecies of Canis lupus have been recognized,and grey wolves,as colloquially understood,comprise nondomestic/feral subspecies. Reintroduction is only considered where large tracts of suitable wilderness still exist and where certain prey species are abundant enough to support a predetermined wolf population. Latest reintroduction has been successful in the Northeast of Scotland,just outside the town of Huntly.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR) is a government agency of the U.S. state of Wisconsin charged with conserving and managing Wisconsin's natural resources. The Wisconsin Natural Resources Board has the authority to set policy for the WDNR. The WDNR is led by the Secretary,who is appointed by the Governor of Wisconsin. The WDNR develops regulations and guidance in accordance with laws passed by the Wisconsin Legislature. It administers wildlife,fish,forests,endangered resources,air,water,waste,and other issues related to natural resources. The central office of the WDNR is located in downtown Madison,near the state capitol.
Julie A. MacDonald is a former deputy assistant secretary for Fish and Wildlife and Parks at the United States Department of the Interior. MacDonald was appointed by former Secretary of the Interior Gale Norton on 3 May 2004 and resigned on 1 May 2007 after an internal investigation found that she had "injected herself personally and profoundly in a number of Endangered Species Act decisions",a violation of the Code of Federal Regulations under Use of Nonpublic Information and Basic Obligation of Public Service,Appearance of Preferential Treatment.

The northern Rocky Mountain wolf,also known as the northern Rocky Mountain timber wolf,is a subspecies of gray wolf native to the northern Rocky Mountains. It is a light-colored,medium to large-sized subspecies with a narrow,flattened frontal bone. The subspecies was initially listed as Endangered on March 9,1978,but had the classification removed in the year 2000 due to the effects of the Northern Rocky Mountain Wolf Recovery Plan. On August 6,2010,the northern Rocky Mountain wolf was ordered to be returned under Endangered Species Act protections by U.S. District Judge Donald Molloy in a decision overturning a previous ruling by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. They were later removed on August 31,2012 from the list because of Idaho,Montana,and Wyoming meeting the population quotas for the species to be considered stable. This wolf is recognized as a subspecies of Canis lupus in the taxonomic authority Mammal Species of the World (2005).
The United States Fish and Wildlife Service Office of Law Enforcement contributes to Service efforts to manage ecosystems,save endangered species,conserve migratory birds,preserve wildlife habitat,restore fisheries,combat invasive species,and promote international wildlife conservation.

Aurelia Skipwith is an American attorney,businesswoman,and biologist who served as the director of the United States Fish and Wildlife Service from 2019 to 2021. She was confirmed by the Senate as director on December 12,2019,by a 52–39 vote,and is the first black director of the Fish and Wildlife Service.

US FWS Henry O'Malley was an American fisheries science research vessel in commission from 1949 to 1951 in the fleet of the United States Department of the Interior's Fish and Wildlife Service. She was the first U.S. fisheries science vessel to explore the central Pacific Ocean in search of commercially valuable populations of fish. Her career was cut short by a requirement for cost-prohibitive repairs.
