Melvin Leon Stottlemyre Jr. (born December 28,1963) is an American professional baseball pitching coach and a former right-handed pitcher in Major League Baseball,who played for the Kansas City Royals.
Listed at 6 ft (1.8 m),190 lb (86 kg),Stottlemyre is the son of former New York Yankees starting pitcher and longtime MLB pitching coach Mel Stottlemyre and the elder brother of Todd Stottlemyre,who won 138 games during a 14-year big-league career. [1]
Stottlemyre attended the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, [1] and in 1984 he played collegiate summer baseball with the Harwich Mariners of the Cape Cod Baseball League. [2]
Stottlemyre was selected in the 1982 Major League Baseball draft by the Seattle Mariners,but did not sign. He was later drafted in the January Secondary 1985 Major League Baseball draft by the Houston Astros. Stottlemyre began his playing career in 1985 with the Class-A Asheville Tourists of the South Atlantic League in the Astros organization. In his first year,he went 5–4 with a 2.75 earned run average (ERA) in 14 games,13 starts.
In 1986,Stottlemyre split the season between the Class-A Asheville Tourists and the Class-A Osceola Astros. He went 3–1 with a 2.10 ERA in seven games,all starts. With Osceola,Stottlemyre went 0–7 with a 7.82 ERA in nine games,eight starts. This gave him a combined record of 3–8 with a 5.01 ERA on the year.
Stottlemyre began the 1987 season with the Double-A Columbus Astros of the Southern League. He was traded by the Astros to the Kansas City Royals on July 29,1987 for Buddy Biancalana. [3]
After the trade,Stottlemyre was assigned to the Double-A Memphis Chicks of the Southern League. He went a combined 7–6 with a 4.31 ERA in 20 games,all starts.
He played the 1988 season with the Double-A Memphis Chicks. He went 3–2 with a 2.40 ERA in seven games,all starts.
In a one-season career at the Major League level in 1990,Stottlemyre posted a 0–1 record with 14 strikeouts,a 4.88 ERA,and 31⅓innings in 13 games pitched,two as a starter.
Stottlemyre began his coaching career while with the University of Nevada-Las Vegas,serving as their pitching coach. Stottlemyre also served as a pitching coach for the Single-A Yakima Bears in 2002,the Single-A Lancaster JetHawks,the Double-A El Paso Diablos,and the Rookie-level Missoula Osprey in 2005–2006. [1]
On May 7,2009,Stottlemyre was hired as the pitching coach for the Arizona Diamondbacks. He was released as pitching coach after the 2010 season,but remained in the D-backs' organization as a roving minor-league pitching instructor. [4] [5] On December 2,2013,he returned to the Diamondbacks' Major League staff as bullpen coach under manager Kirk Gibson. [5]
On October 26,2015,Stottlemyre was announced as the new pitching coach for the Seattle Mariners during manager Scott Servais' inaugural press conference. [6] He replaced Rick Waits,who was hired after the 2013 season. [7]
On December 5,2018,Stottlemyre was hired as pitching coach for the Miami Marlins. [8]
In October 2021,Stottlemyre revealed that he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer in February of the same year. Stottlemyre had his prostate removed in October and announced that he still planned to coach the 2022 season. [9]
On October 31,2022,the Marlins signed Stottlemyre to a multi–year contract extension. [10]
Alfredo JoséPedrique García is a Venezuelan professional baseball player,coach,and manager. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a shortstop for the New York Mets (1987),Pittsburgh Pirates (1987–88),and Detroit Tigers (1989). Pedrique served as the Houston Astros bench coach and as manager of the Arizona Diamondbacks. He also served first base coach of the Oakland Athletics a season before being shuffled to third base coaching for two further seasons. He is currently the manager for the Reading Fightin Phils.

He played for 15 seasons in Major League Baseball as a starting pitcher from 1988 to 2002,most notably as a member of the Toronto Blue Jays with whom he won two World Series championships in 1992 and 1993. He also played for the Oakland Athletics,St. Louis Cardinals,Texas Rangers,and the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The 2008 Seattle Mariners season was the 32nd Major League Baseball season in the team's history. Coming off the heels of the previous 2007 season,in which the M's finished with their first winning record since 2003,the team was widely expected to once again compete for the American League West division championship. The team was bolstered by some major roster additions during the previous offseason,most notably starting pitchers Érik Bédard and Carlos Silva. However,by the end of May,it became apparent that the team had gone back to its losing ways of the 2004–06 seasons. Despite their losing ways,they won their first and last game of the season. Their longest winning-streak of the season is 4 games after a Cleveland sweep at the end of August and a 12-6 win against the Texas Rangers on the first day of September. However,standing at 57-87,their longest losing-streak of the season is 12 games,11 on the road,1 at home,after being swept by the L.A. Angels,Kansas City Royals,Oakland Athletics,and suffering a loss at the last homestand opener against the L.A. Angels. On September 23,the Mariners became the first club to spend $100 million in payroll and lose 100 games. The team finished the season with a 61–101 (.377) record,last in the West for the 4th time in 5 years,and second worst in the majors.
Brent Terry Strom is a former Major League Baseball (MLB) pitcher and current pitching coach for the Arizona Diamondbacks. His MLB playing career spanned from 1972 to 1973 and 1975 to 1977 for the New York Mets,Cleveland Indians and San Diego Padres. He served as pitching coach for the Houston Astros in 1996 and from 2014 to 2021,helping guide the club to the 2017 World Series championship. The 2012 Major League Baseball season began on March 28 with the first of a two-game series between the Seattle Mariners and the Oakland Athletics at the Tokyo Dome in Japan. On November 22,2011,a new contract between Major League Baseball and its players union was ratified,and as a result,an expanded playoff format adding two clubs would be adopted no later than 2013 according to the new Collective Bargaining Agreement. The new format was finalized for the 2012 season on March 2,2012,and used the 2–3 game schedule format for the Division Series for the 2012 season only. The restriction against divisional rivals playing against each other in the Division Series round that had existed in previous years was eliminated,as the Baltimore Orioles and New York Yankees squared off in one of the best-of-five LDS series in the American League. The stateside portion of the regular season started April 4 in Miami with the opening of the new Marlins Park,as the newly renamed Miami Marlins hosted the defending World Series champion St. Louis Cardinals. The regular season ended on Wednesday,October 3. The entire master schedule was released on September 14,2011.
