A microregion is an association of several independent communities in Tyrol for the purpose of collaboration and planning among various communities. Currently there do exist 37 microregions in Tyrol based on a regulation enacted in 2001. [1]

A microregion was a legally defined area in Brazil consisting of a group of municipalities. They were abolished in 2017 and replaced by "immediate geographic regions". Microregions were grouped together into mesoregions. In theory, Brazilian law provided for member municipalities to cooperate on matters of common interest, but in practice, the divisions were used primarily for statistical purposes by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics.

Microregions in Goiás

The state of Goiás is divided into 18 statistical microregions by the Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatístic (IBGE). These have no administrative function but are used only for statistics. The total area of the state is 341,289 km2 and the population is 5,450,303 as of 2007. Thirty seven percent of the population—2,032,305—lives in the Goiânia Microregion and 17.6%--960,141—of the population lives in the Entorno do Distrito Federal Microregion. The GDP of the state of Goiás was R$50,536 billion in 2005, the last year data was gathered.

The IBGE has since discontinued the microregion system for population tracking, replacing it with the term "immediate geographic region".
