NFL Teacher of the Year

NFL Teacher of the Year is an award given by the National Football League. When the award began in 1990, it was to award a teacher who "had the single greatest impact on [a player's] educational and life-skills development" but starting in 2010 it has been awarded to former players who have gone on to succeed as teachers themselves. [1]

Vincent Jackson American football player (1983–2021)

Vincent Terrell Jackson was an American professional football player who played as a wide receiver for 12 seasons in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Northern Colorado, and was drafted by the San Diego Chargers in the second round of the 2005 NFL Draft. He also played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Jackson was selected to the Pro Bowl three times and exceeded 1,000 receiving yards six times in his career.

Dwight Freeney American football player (born 1980)

Dwight Jason Freeney is a former American football player who played as defensive end for 16 seasons in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Syracuse University, where he earned unanimous All-American honors, and was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in the first round of the 2002 NFL Draft. With the Colts, Freeney won Super Bowl XLI over the Chicago Bears, and made seven Pro Bowls. He also played for the San Diego Chargers, Arizona Cardinals, Atlanta Falcons, Seattle Seahawks and Detroit Lions.

LaDainian Tomlinson American football player (born 1979)

LaDainian Tarshane Tomlinson is an American former professional football player who was a running back in the National Football League (NFL) for 11 seasons. He is widely considered to be one of the greatest running backs of all time. He played the majority of his career with the San Diego Chargers, who selected him as the fifth overall pick in the 2001 NFL Draft. Tomlinson was invited to five Pro Bowls, was an All-Pro six times, and won consecutive rushing titles in 2006 and 2007, while being named 2006 NFL MVP. At the time of his retirement, he ranked fifth in career rushing yards (13,684), seventh in all-purpose yards (18,456), second in career rushing touchdowns (145), and third in total touchdowns (162). He is currently an analyst on NFL Network. After being elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 2014, Tomlinson was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in August 2017, his first year of eligibility; he is the first Pro Football Hall of Famer whose professional career began in the 21st century.

Philip Rivers American football player (born 1981)

Philip Michael Rivers is a former American football quarterback who played in the National Football League (NFL) for 17 seasons, primarily with the Chargers franchise. He played college football at NC State and was selected fourth overall in the 2004 NFL Draft by the New York Giants, who traded him to the San Diego Chargers during the draft. Rivers was a member of the Chargers for 16 seasons and played his final season for the Indianapolis Colts.

Albert J. Smith is a former American football player, coach, scout, and executive. He served as a part-time scout for several NFL and USFL teams before joining the Buffalo Bills in 1986, serving as a scout and executive for them for 14 years. With the Bills, the team won four AFC Championships. He joined the San Diego Chargers in 2001 as a director of pro personnel, and was promoted to general manager and executive vice president for them two years later. He stayed with the Chargers until being fired following the 2012 season. Smith's son, Kyle, is also an NFL scout and executive.

Antioch High School School in Antioch, Contra Costa, California, United States

Antioch High School is a public high school located in Antioch, California, United States. It is located at 700 West 18th Street between G and L streets. It is a comprehensive high school for grades 9-12. There are about 120 teachers, and 20 maintenance and office staff. The administration consists of a principal and four vice principals. Departments at the school include English; mathematics; physical, earth, and life sciences; social studies; physical education; vocal and instrumental music; video, photographic, sculpted, painted and drawn arts; foreign languages; health and sports medicine; auto and wood shop; and engineering.

Brent McClanahan is a former professional American football player who played running back for seven seasons for the Minnesota Vikings. He is now a teacher at South High School in Bakersfield, CA.

Eric Weddle American football player (born 1985)

Eric Steven Weddle is a former American football safety who played in the National Football League (NFL) for 14 seasons. He played college football at Utah, where he was a consensus All-American, and was selected by the San Diego Chargers in the second round of the 2007 NFL Draft. During his nine seasons with the Chargers, Weddle received three Pro Bowl selections and two first-team All-Pro honors. Weddle spent his next three seasons as a member of the Baltimore Ravens, earning Pro Bowl honors in each and extending his total selections to six. He retired after playing for the Los Angeles Rams in 2019, but returned two years later to join the Rams on their playoff run, which culminated with a victory in Super Bowl LVI. Following the championship, he retired a second time.

Terry Sanford High School is a public high school in Fayetteville, North Carolina. It is named after Terry Sanford, who was a North Carolina state senator, Governor of North Carolina, and United States Senator. Students range from grades 9–12 and is a part of the Cumberland County School System.

Brent Grimes American football player (born 1983)

Brent Omar Grimes is a former American football cornerback. He played college football at Shippensburg University and signed with the Atlanta Falcons as an undrafted free agent in 2006. Grimes was allocated to the Hamburg Sea Devils of NFL Europa in 2006 and was part of the team that won World Bowl XV.

Mike Pouncey American football player (born 1989)

James Michael Pouncey is a former American football center who played ten seasons in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the University of Florida, was a member of a BCS National Championship team, and earned All-American honors. He was drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft, and played the final three seasons of his career with the Los Angeles Chargers. He is the twin brother of former NFL center Maurkice Pouncey.

Frank Beede American football player (born 1973)

Frank McNulty Beede III is a former professional American football player who played offensive lineman for five seasons for the Seattle Seahawks, seven years in Arena Football with the San Jose Sabercats, was a history teacher for 15 years and is now an assistant principal. Married to his wife Kim since 2000, they have 2 children, Frank IV and Kendall, together.

Melvin Ingram American football player (born 1989)

Melvin Ingram III is an American football defensive end who is a free agent. He played college football for the University of South Carolina, and earned All-American honors. He was selected by the San Diego Chargers in the first round with the 18th overall pick of the 2012 NFL Draft. He has also played for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Casey Hayward American football player (born 1989)

Casey Hayward Jr. is an American football cornerback for the Atlanta Falcons of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Vanderbilt. Hayward was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft and has played for the San Diego / Los Angeles Chargers for five seasons.

Dexter McCoil American gridiron football player (born 1991)

Dexter McCoil Sr. is an gridiron football safety for the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League (CFL). He played college football at Tulsa. McCoil has also been a member of the Los Angeles Kiss, Edmonton Eskimos, Los Angeles Chargers, San Francisco 49ers, Calgary Stampeders, and St. Louis BattleHawks.
