The EuroLeague, known as the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague for sponsorship reasons, is a European men's professional basketball club competition. The league is widely recognised as the top-tier men's league in Europe. The league consists of 18 teams, of which 16 are given long-term licences and wild cards, making the league a semi-closed league. The league was first organized by FIBA in 1958, subsequently by ULEB in 2000 and then solely the Euroleague Basketball.

The club's full name is Gymnastikos Syllogos Peristeriou K.A.E.. It is a part of the G.S. Peristeri multi-sports club. The club was founded on October 22, 1971.

The culminating 1991 FIBA European Champions Cup Final Four was held at Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy, Bercy, Paris, on 16–18 April 1991. Toni Kukoč was named Final Four MVP for the second straight year.

Palais des Sports Maurice Thorez, or Palais des Sports de Nanterre, is an indoor sporting arena that is located in Nanterre, Hauts-de-Seine, France, near Paris. The arena is named after former minister Maurice Thorez. The capacity of the arena for basketball games is 3,000. The Final was held at the Palais des Sports, in Grenoble, France, on April 5, 1979. Bosna defeated Emerson Varese, by a result of 96–93. This final was the last in an impressive run of ten consecutive finals appearances for Varese, and is also notable for Bosna's Žarko Varajić scoring 45 points, a still active record for the number of most points scored in a single EuroLeague Finals game.
