Northeastern University is a private research university with its main campus in Boston, Massachusetts. Established in 1898, it was founded by the Boston Young Men's Christian Association as an all-male institute before being incorporated as Northeastern College in 1916, gaining university status in 1922. With more than 38,000 students, Northeastern is the largest university in Massachusetts by enrollment.

The UConn Huskies men's basketball program is the NCAA Division I men's college basketball team of the University of Connecticut in Storrs, Connecticut. They currently play in the Big East Conference and are coached by Dan Hurley. With six national championships and 45 conference titles, the program is considered one of the blue bloods of college basketball.

The Washington Huskies baseball team is the varsity intercollegiate baseball team of the University of Washington, located in Seattle, Washington, United States. The program has been a member of the NCAA Division I Pac-12 Conference since the start of the 1960 season, preceded by the Pacific Coast Conference.
Danielle Elaine Lawrie is a Canadian, former collegiate All-American, medal-winning Olympian, professional All-Star softball pitcher and current sports commentator. Lawrie played college softball at Washington, in which she was part of the 2009 Women's College World Series championship team and was named Most Outstanding Player. Lawrie currently plays for the Canada women's national softball team, including during the 2008 Summer Olympics, and the 2020 Summer Olympics, where she won a bronze medal.

The Stony Brook Seawolves baseball team represents Stony Brook University in NCAA Division I men's college baseball. Stony Brook currently competes in the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) and plays its home games on Joe Nathan Field. Matt Senk has coached the team since the beginning of the 1991 season. The team has won the America East tournament six times in 2004, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2015, and 2019. In 2011, the Seawolves claimed their first America East regular season championship. Stony Brook has participated in the NCAA tournament on six separate occasions, winning its first game in 2010.

The Huskies play home games at the 4,666-seat Matthews Arena, the world's oldest hockey arena still in use. Jerry Keefe assumed the head coach role in 2021 after longtime coach Jim Madigan moved to athletic director.

Herbert Wendell Gallagher was an American ice hockey and baseball coach and college athletics administrator. He served two stints as the head ice hockey coach at Northeastern University, from 1936 to 1942 and 1946 to 1955. Gallagher was also the head baseball coach at Northeastern from 1938 to 1942 and from 1946 to 1955. He was the school's athletic director from 1955 to 1976 and a backfield coach for the football program.
Aaron James Civale is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Tampa Bay Rays of Major League Baseball (MLB). He played college baseball at Northeastern University, and was drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the third round of the 2016 MLB draft. He made his MLB debut in 2019.
The 2021 Colonial Athletic Association baseball tournament was held at Brooks Field in Wilmington, North Carolina, from May 25 through 30. The Northeastern Huskies won the tournament, their first CAA victory, and earned the Colonial Athletic Association's automatic bid to the 2021 NCAA Division I baseball tournament.
