The Orlando Culinary Academy (OCA) was a culinary and hospitality training school and an affiliate of Le Cordon Bleu Schools North America. The Academy was established in January 2002 and was located in Orlando, Florida. OCA is a branch campus of the International Academy of Design and Technology's Tampa division. In July 2007, the Orlando Culinary Academy was named College of the Year by the Florida Association of Postsecondary Schools and Colleges Conference. [1] All US Le Cordon Bleu College locations closed in 2017. [2]

Programs

Orlando Culinary Academy offered two degree programs for study. An Associate in Science Degree available in Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Arts, and Le Cordon Bleu Pâtisserie & Baking. All of the degree programs were designed to be fifteen to twenty-one months in length with an externship during the final three months of the programs. [3]

Admissions

The requirements for admission into OCA were a personal interview, high school diploma or equivalent and completion of an application, enrollment agreement and financial aid forms. [4]

Campus

Orlando Culinary Academy occupied 80,000 square feet (7,400 m2) a freestanding facility at 8511 Commodity Circle in Orlando Central Park, an office-industrial park in south Orlando. [5] The facilities included professional kitchens, lecture classrooms and an Academy library with the administrative office in the building.

Accreditation

Orlando Culinary Academy is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS) to award diplomas and associate degrees. [6] OCA is also accredited by the American Culinary Federation Foundation, Inc. Accrediting Commission. [7]

Notable faculty

Chef Instructor Tyler Brassil was named one of the Top Ten Best Sous Chefs in America by Bertoli Olive Oil and Food & Wine Magazine in the first sous chef awards. [8] In 2000, he opened the Empire restaurant and worked alongside future Food & Wine Best New Chef 2000, Loren Falsone.

The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale is a former for-profit art and culinary school in Fort Lauderdale, Florida which closed in 2018. The school was one of a number of Art Institutes, a franchise of for-profit art colleges with many branches in North America, owned and operated by Education Management Corporation (EDMC). EDMC owned the college from 1973 until 2017, when, facing declining enrollment, multiple fraud charges brought by faculty and students, and accreditation issues at some of its schools, the company sold the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, along with other properties, to Dream Center Education, a Los Angeles-based Pentecostal organization. Dream Center Education planned to operate the school, along with others it acquired, as a non-profit. The plan proved unsustainable, with Dream Center permanently closing 18 Art Institute schools, including Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, at the end of 2018.

Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Chicago was founded in 1983, and closed in September 2017. The school was accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and was located in Chicago, Illinois. The school offered an Associate of Occupational Studies degree and Certificate Program in Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Arts and an Associate of Occupational Studies degree in Le Cordon Bleu Pâtisserie and Baking.

Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts Atlanta was a two-year private for-profit college in Georgia. The college was owned by Career Education Corporation under a licensing agreement with Le Cordon Bleu in Paris. The branch campus was established in April 2003 and all US Cordon Bleu College locations closed in September 2017.

Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts- Scottsdale formerly Scottsdale Culinary Institute (SCI) was a career-focused school in Arizona specializing in culinary and hospitality education. Elizabeth Sherman Leite started Scottsdale Culinary Institute in 1986. The college is owned by Career Education Corporation under a licensing agreement with Le Cordon Bleu in Paris. The institute was located in a former country club on a golf course and lakefront overlooking Camelback Mountain. It closed in 2017.

Le Cordon Bleu of Culinary Arts in Austin (LCB-Austin) was a private school located in The Domain, a 235-acre (0.95 km2), multi-use park in Austin, Texas. The cooking school was affiliated with Le Cordon Bleu Schools North America.

Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts Las Vegas was a culinary school founded in 2003 and owned by Career Education Corporation under a licensing agreement with Le Cordon Bleu in Paris. The school was accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology (ACCSCT). In Las Vegas, Nevada, the school offered an Associate of Occupational Science degree in Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Arts and a Certificate in Le Cordon Bleu Pâtisserie and Baking.

Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts Miami was a culinary arts school in Miramar, Florida. The college is owned by Career Education Corporation under a licensing agreement with Le Cordon Bleu in Paris. The school offered a Diploma in Le Cordon Bleu Pâtisserie and Baking and an Associate of Science degree in Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Arts. Students received training from experienced chefs and the programs were designed to help students prepare for culinary careers.

The California Culinary Academy (CCA) was a for-profit school, and an affiliate of Le Cordon Bleu located in San Francisco, California. Danielle Carlisle established the school in 1977 to train chefs using the European education model. The original location on the corner of Fremont and Howard Street in the South of Market area of San Francisco, was located in the remodeled, top-floor, cafeteria in the Del Monte headquarters. The academy trained more than 15,000 people for restaurant careers through its 30-week baking and pastry chef program and 16-month culinary arts degree program. It was purchased by Career Education Corporation in 1999.

Le Cordon Bleu Institute of Culinary Arts in Pittsburgh was a cooking school in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, operating from 1986 to 2012. The institute offered a variety of specialized culinary degrees.

IADT - Tampa was a for-profit college offering both bachelor and associate degrees in many different fields of study. The former Sears executive Clem Stein established the original International Academy of Design and Technology in Chicago in 1977. The Tampa location opened in 1984. IADT's holding company, Career Education Corporation, merged the school under the Sanford-Brown College name in March 2014 before closing the location a year later.

Center for Culinary Arts, Manila (CCA) is an institution which provides culinary education in the Philippines. CCA, Manila was formally established in 1996 and is currently located in Katipunan Avenue, Quezon City, Philippines. CCA, Manila has satellite campuses in Farmers Market, Cubao; a Restaurant School at SM Mall of Asia called Oceana and at Eastwood Mall called CCA Kitchen. CCA offers diploma and certificate programs accredited by the accrediting commission of the American Culinary Federation. The school also offers basic courses for beginners and professionals as well as international degree succession and certification.

Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts is a private culinary school with campuses in Boulder, Colorado, Austin, Texas, and online. The school offers culinary arts, pastry arts, and plant-based programs. It is named after Auguste Escoffier, the renowned French chef who is hailed as the father of modern haute cuisine, and owned by Triumph Higher Education group.

Tante Marie Culinary Academy is a cookery school in Woking, Surrey, England. It is the United Kingdom's oldest independent cookery school, established in 1954 by the cookery writer Iris Syrett.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Culinard</span>

Culinard was a culinary school owned by Education Corporation of America. It was opened in 2000 as part of the Birmingham, Alabama branch of Virginia College. The second campus was opened with the establishment of the Jacksonville, Florida branch of Virginia College in 2009. Additional Culinard campuses operated at Virginia College campuses in Mobile, Alabama; Richmond, Virginia; Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Savannah, Georgia. This school shut down in December 2018 because Educational Corporation of America shut down.

The Chef's Academy is the culinary division of Harrison College based in Indianapolis, Indiana. Harrison College, formerly known as Indiana Business College, is a for-profit career college based in Indianapolis, Indiana, with locations across Indiana, online and in Ohio. The college was founded as Marion Business College in 1902 in Marion, Indiana.

Eta Sigma Delta International Hospitality Management Society is an international honor society for hospitality students. The organization has about 90 chapters. The International Council on Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Education administers the organization.
