Oulu is a city and municipality of 208,939 inhabitants in the region of North Ostrobothnia, Finland. It is the most populous city in Northern Finland and the fifth most populous in the country after: Helsinki, Espoo, Tampere and Vantaa, and the fourth largest urban area in the country after Helsinki, Tampere and Turku. Oulu's neighbouring municipalities are: Hailuoto, Ii, Kempele, Liminka, Lumijoki, Muhos, Pudasjärvi, Tyrnävä and Utajärvi.
The Orthodox Church of Finland is an autonomous Eastern Orthodox archdiocese of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople. The church has a legal position as a national church in the country, along with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland.

Taulumäki Church is the principal Lutheran church in Jyväskylä, the administrative centre of the Central Finland region. Designed by architect Elsi Borg (1893–1958), its construction began in 1928. The church was inaugurated on October 27, 1929, and replaces the 1885 church designed by Ludvig Isak Lindqvist, which had burned down on January 27, 1918.
Turkansaari is an island in the Oulujoki river with an open-air museum in the Madekoski district in Oulu, Finland. The museum is run by the Northern Ostrobothnia museum.
The Tuira Church is an evangelical Lutheran church in Tuira, Oulu. The church building has been designed by architect Harald Andersin and it was inaugurated as a chapel of Oulu parish in 1916. The parish of Oulu was divided into smaller parishes in 1966 and the chapel in Tuira was inaugurated as a church. At the time the first extension of the church was started according to plans of architect Mikko Huhtela. The current form is from 1992 when the second extension of the building was completed.
Tuira is a district of the city of Oulu, Finland. It is located north of city centre across the Oulujoki River. After the first bridges over Oulujoki connecting Tuira with Oulu were built in 1869, population growth of Tuira accelerated and Tuira was annexed by city of Oulu from the neighbouring rural municipality in 1886. Until the 1970s Tuira was a neighbourhood of wooden townhouses, but the new zoning plan of 1969 changed it to a suburb of residential tower blocks.

Kallio Church is a Lutheran church in the Kallio district of Helsinki, Finland. It was designed by Lars Sonck and represents National Romanticism with Art Nouveau influences. The National Romantic style appears in the use of traditional Finnish materials and in the church's massive, gray granite body, as well as in nature-inspired colours and decorative motifs.
The Oulunsalo Church is an evangelical Lutheran church in the Finnish city of Oulu. It was part of the town of Oulunsalo until 2013 when that town was merged into Oulu.
Metropolitan Elia is the current metropolitan of Oulu of the Finnish Orthodox Church. He was consecrated on 11 January 2015. He follows in this position Metropolitan Panteleimon, who retired in June 2013. His home church is the Holy Trinity Cathedral of Oulu.

Its neighbouring municipalities were Kempele, Kiiminki, Muhos, Oulu, Tyrnävä, Utajärvi and Ylikiiminki. The municipality was named after the river Oulujoki.
